Hello everybody, I have been watching Bob's youtube channel and other RV channels, and doing some research on RV living.

I currently have a good job that I want to keep, but rent is out of control and I am looking at the option of buying a van and modding it, or buying a small class B for full time living - something more on the stealthy side.

I can buy new with some planning, up to $40k or so - would not consider paying $80-$100k for a new class B though.

I have about 5+ years to retirement and prefer to save the rent money than giving it away.  No family, no pets, free like a bird :)

I have a new Subaru Forester, but I'm thinking that would be too small - I need a mobile office space and a bed.  I also like the van/class B for immediate access to living space from the driver side (without going outside).

For retirement definitely planning to RV full time at least for a while until I find apiece of land somewhere.  So this is just going to be an early start.

Anybody has experience with full time work and full time RV -ing in a big city ?

I live in the Seattle area, would love to connect with local RV-ers to learn more about this lifestyle.
And find a trusty shop that can mod a van - I can work on it, just don't have tools / space.

I have until next summer (2019) to figure out something, and can extend the wait until 2020 if I need to.  Would prefer to get the van, mod it and slowly upgrade it as long as I have this apartment, try it out, take the time to figure out what I need, etc.

Any ideas / advice appreciated.

OOPS - Just realized this is the CAR section, meant to post this in the VAN section .... Moderators please move it if needed. Thanks.

Welcome, Remie! Eventually I have thought about getting a piece of land as well for a home base. Not so sure any more. We'll see how the future plays out. Good luck with your own plans.

I knew a girl that lived out of her Subaru Forester so it can be done. A Van is a good choice for stealth camping. It is a good idea not to spend a lot of money when getting started. You can outfit your vehicle for camping, (stove cooler mattress, etc.), and see how that goes. You will need these things anyway if you get a van. Your vehicle can also tow a small trailer, (but then you have parking and stealth problems).

Youtube is a great way to see what others have done. look for SUVcamper, minivan camper etc. There are even several under Subuaru forester camper.
