I am/was about to buy a Dodge Ram Camper. I live in FL.  State Farm has declined me because I won't have a 'garaged' address and I made the 'mistake' of saying I'd be living in the camper. So, as I begin to try to find coverage with another carrier, losing all the long term good standing discounts I had with State Farm -my expense for not knowing how tricky this is, what do other people do?  While I'm at it, in order to keep a voter registration I guess I'll have to list something let alone renewing a drivers license... I just didn't anticipate this and despite watching a lot of the CRVL videos, I'm caught flatfooted and scared. Can anyone help me?  I need to sort this out by Monday Sept 9 to keep the van sale!

I believe Florida accepts the Escapees address in FL as you residence. I believe some on the forum belong to Escapees but since you are so short on time go to the Escapees web site. highdesertranger

Everyone needs a useable address for driver license, registration and insurance.

Okay, first of all you have 30 days to do it. If you cannot use Escapees, you could rent a month at an RV park as it is off season so lower rates, and use that as your address.
Good Sam RV has insurance for RVs and vans and were reasonable when I was living full-time in an RV; not sure about a van.

You'll also need a FL driver's license before you register and title it.

New to Florida?
You have 30 days to register and title your vehicle with your local DHSMV once you:

Begin working in the state.
Register your children for a Florida school.
Establish FL residency through rental, lease, or purchase of an apartment or house.

Where do you live now?

they said they live in Florida. that's why I said Escapees. they is probably other option but Escapees is the only one I know of in FL. highdesertranger

But do they currently have a RESIDENCE in Florida?  I'm guessing not if they are panicking. Perhaps I could have been clearer with the question "How are you living now" or "In what domicile are you residing - house/car/boat/tent/under the overpass while IN Florida".
If they recently lived in a residence within the last little bit, they could use that address for the garaged location, until they formulate a new plan of residency.

The information wasn't adding up, in order to be able to help, so I was seeking clarification. Apparently my request for clarification wasn't uh, clear enough ;)

Sunny, I went thru the same experience (StateFarm fail) last year.
After many phone calls trying to find someone who will insure an out-of-the-closet homeless Nomad, I went with GoodSam, who were more than willing to insure an old Dodge van with no "garage" address.
It was extremely easy, and would get you out of your current jam.

Disclaimer:
GoodSam did not honor the rate they quoted me (prior to purchasing my van), and have failed to provide an explanation despite several requests.
They also messed up in several other areas.

I'm currently investigating Progressive, which several people vaguely claimed they were using, but there's a lack of concrete info.
I'll be tackling that over the next two weeks, and will report back if I achieve success.

Another option that has been mentioned is using an insurance broker.

Good luck, and I literally feel your pain!

When you buy insurance don't get so excited about your new adventures that it all comes spewing out of your mouth.
Insurance agents are sitting there filling in forms on the computer screen in front of them. You through them for a loop if you don't answer the question within the parameters of available options of responses. It is the computer software program they are using that generates the quotes. If the answers don't match the parameters of the program then they can't sell you an insurance policy.

If you don't have a street address to give them so they can fill in the box then it is actually impossible for the person who is entering the data to issue insurance to you. It really is that simple. You just need responses that work for the insurance companies software program.
