I have been in the planning stage for months now, and just decided to join this wonderful community.

I have a 2016 Honda CRV that I tried to make into a camper as is.  I took measurements and sketched out various floor plans but nothing was working for me.  Last week I visited my family in El Paso and talked about how I wanted to spend my time seeing parts of this beautiful country that I haven't been to.  I talked about this RTR group and how perfect there is a WRTR for me that is only a few hours away.  I am from a family of campers so immediately we all put our heads together and began the planning.  First thing - the rear seats had to come out of my car.  Okay, this scared me because I was so worried about the resale value.

Then I remembered something:  The only time you are actually growing is when you feel uncomfortable.   And this made me feel very uncomfortable.

My son spent about an hour removing and storing all the parts that make up the rear seats.  It opened up so much space and I knew it would work.  I could do this!  Then I was given a rather large check to help me buy the creature comforts to live my dream.  Amazon here I come...

My goal is to be self sufficient by the time I get to WRTR.   These forums and Youtube videos have taught me a lot, but I have a lot to learn.  I grew up camping not only here in the states but in Europe as well.  I'm an oldie but goodie when it comes to living off the land.

I relocated from Illinois last year to the Phoenix area and unfortunately I have to be back in here in Phoenix every 2 weeks for immunotherapy treatments for the next 50 weeks.  I am thankful that my brother rents me a room so I will always have a home base.  I am so grateful to have my family here in Phoenix and in El Paso.  I still have family in Illinois that I want (need) to visit every summer.

Last, but not least, I have to thank this community for allowing me to be a part of the nomads.  I am a nomad at heart.

Welcome pksmart/Pam! I'm a wannabe nomad too and lifetime camper. I'll be starting out in a SUV in November, and hope to see you at the WRTR/RTR. It is starting to get cold here in Michigan so almost time to hit the road.

Thanks for sharing your story. I've also been very fortunate that friends and family are very supportive. They understand that I am trying to connect with my true nature with this next phase/odyssey.

I also himmed and hawwed about whether to remove the back seats from my SUV. Finally figured out solution without removing, but I appreciate your reasoning. We only find joy and growth when we put ourselves out of our comfort zone. We can do this!

Welcome to the CRVL forums pksmart! How great that your family understands your desire to travel and are willing to help you reach that goal! Enjoy the WRTR!

Welcome, Pam! You've got a great vehicle there, and with the rear seat out and funds for your build, you're going to be in great shape for your adventures. Wonderful that you have supportive family. Hope you sail through your treatment and beyond! Here's to a wonderful life!

Hi Pam - nice car for travel!!! I'll be at WRTR in an old 2005 Ford Taurus my mom gave me last year. I'll have a tent as well. That's so nice of your family to support your dreams of travel by helping to convert your car, and the money for camping equipment! Happy travels!

Welcome to the forum, Pam
Sounds like your family was just excited about fixing your car up for the trip as you were . You will most likely forget something, I think we all do . You think you got it all ready and hit the rod and 300 miles down the road you remember , oh crap no crapper haha . Just an example , no worries you’ll be able to find all you need on the road as well . Plus when you make it to WRTR there will be plenty of ladies willing to help. Good luck , hope you make it to RTR as well

Without this forum I wouldn't know what I needed and I want to be independent. I hope to build the bed this week and test-camp in the superstition mountains next weekend. It's funny that I just wanted to do overnight, but my 91 year old Mom told me I need at least 2 nights to understand what is really needed. She is so smart!

I appreciate all the welcomes! I need a group with my like mind. I hope.
