I'm about to order a much needed cell booster and I'm looking at the Wilson sleek 4g. It of course uses an antenna that is supposed to be mounted on a metal roof. Can I just mount it on my hood or should I shop for mirror mount version?

Does anyone have any suggestions based on experience to get the most from a Verizon phone?

it will require a 1' piece square metal added to the roof for best performance.....mounting below metal areas of a vehicle cause Deflection and can cause an antenna to become directional....

if you've got a luggage rack on your roof, you could always clamp this 1' piece of square stock to it, and work offa that.

Easy-peasy!

There's a two foot by two foot piece of galvanized steel on the roof covering an old skylight above the front bunk. I think that should do nicely I hope. It holds a magnet well. The booster should be here Monday.

I have the Wilson Sleek and no ground required. I just screwed a 1x1 foot piece of sheetmetal to the plywood over my trailer. Works great.

I also bought a Wilson Trucker Cell Phone antenna and tested it against the 4 inch magnetic that came with it using a friends cell phone app. I didn't see any difference! I find that hard to understand but it's true.

The cellphone app to use on an iPhone is called SIGNAL and you have to use a jailbroken iPhone to get it. Maps all the cell towers in the area and shows signal levels from each, and which one you are connected to. Good tool.

If you are not jailbroken you can use an app called OPENSIGNAL to almost do the equivalent review of reception.

I'm on rooted android. I've got aa handful of apps for signal and tower management and force roaming etc. Don't tell verizon.
