You'll learn pretty quickly whether this is for you.
Yes you could jump in now if you get a rig together. Just take it in small steps to start out with. (like a week end camp out to start with. Take a note book and just down notes to yourself of things you wish you had known to take with you. These will be your "shake downs" or first trips.
If you go out on a Friday afternoon you may start at your first campground overnight. The next morning break camp and travel to a second place for Saturday. This way you can set up an itinerary to see a few sites and land in a camp ground where you can find a camp site to suit you.
