Greetings all, First off a confession. I was perfectly happy with being a lurker. I had converted and lived in two vans in the past (early sixties and a 1976, both Fords) and was watching the forum for ideas. I'm an old geezer at 66, live in Oregon (where people don't tan, they rust) and converting a van to a camper for the wife and I to do some cruising. Well, here I am with a 2000 E150 that I am finding has more rusted thru areas then I was expecting. My Fords in the past were just as old during converting and not much in the way of rust in either one. Has quality gone that far down hill. It's more then obvious to me that I am going to need advice thru some of the hurdles I'm finding. Enough of the negativity, I'm happy to find this union of vagabonds and hope to contribute in the future. Thanks, Rustafo

Welcome to the forum. I just joined a couple weeks back myself. I am in the process of researching the best options for the particular setup I need for mobility and work space to coincide with one another. I imagine things are more damp in the PNW, so I would expect rust to be more of an issue up there then other places.

Welcome to the CRVL forums, Rustafo!

There's a lot of knowledge and wisdom on this forum. Hopefully, you can get the help you need, here.

To help you learn the ins and outs of these forums, this "Tips & Tricks" post lists some helpful information to get you started. We look forward to hearing more from you.

Hi Rustafo. I can't help with the rust issue. My 1995 van had such little amounts I was frankly surprised. It's an Oregon van but I believe it was probably garaged for a good portion of it's life. Since I didn't have to deal with it I'll learn from the responses you get.

I really just wanted to say welcome. Where are you and your wife planning on going, once the rust is dealt with? I bet you have some stories of your own to tell since you've converted 2 vans before. Best of luck from a fellow Oregonian.

Cheers

Thank you everyone for the warm welcoming. Although the van has been in Oregon for some time now, it started its' life in New Jersey and then some time in Colorado. That's what the Fax said. I've decided to name the van "Rusty" I don't know if this is a popular name or not, but it fits. I've posted some photos of the problems on the "Conversions" section. Wife and I are planing a shake down around the middle of May. Probably just up the coast with stops to do some Springer fishing. Then maybe up to the NE section of WA and down to the Wallowas. I'll keep repairs posted. Thanks again.

Hi Rustafo! Best of luck to you and your wife in your travels!

Hi and Welcome!! I like the name 'Rusty', it fits. :)

'Rusty' is probably what a lot of owners call their vehicles when they are referring to them in a desultory fashion. My van when new to me was fondly known as the 'Great White Money Pit'.

The problem with a negative name is that they usually try to live up to their name.

Let's hope that sooner rather than later your van can be addressed as 'Formerly known as Rusty'.

Good luck with the project.
