Many people talk about how to get out of jury duty. I don't mind serving on a jury, because like ERLH, if I happen to end up in front of a jury, I would like to think they would be doing their best to make a sound judgment for ME, and not be just a collection of idiots.

Woohoo! They released me! Normally, we have to call or go online the night before, to see if our Juror Pool ID number is in the group needed, or not. My number is 145, and they actually e-mailed me early to say they took those up to number 79. Those above got released, our jury commitment finished.
Normally, I am willing to do my duty, but health issues would make the walk from the parking lots to the courthouse an ordeal. I was dreading that.
Ah well, off the hook for the next few years. I am happy. Gotta love the computer age!

Four days wasted just in selection? That is a crime in itself.
The county trial I got dismissed from turned out to be a waste too. Just after I was let go the perp pled out to a lesser charge.

The last time I got picked for jury duty was way back in 1995. It was a home invasion case and since that had happened to my late husband, our kids, and me, I got out of having to be a part of it. The reason why was that the home invasion we experienced had happened not even a year ago. I have never been called since.

Not necessarily true.  It varies from state to state.  Many states use the list of driver's licenses from the DMV as well as the voting rolls.

Exactly right.  I am being summoned right now.  I have a P.O. Box as my mailing address, but the summons always comes to my home.  I tell the court every time to change my address to my mailing address, but they don't.  I spoke to a court person yesterday and asked why they keep sending them to my home and I rarely check the mail because it's all junk and I have a P.O.  BOX.  She said they get my address from the DMV or voter registration.  I told her my P.O. BOX number is on my license.

So i can only guess it's from voting.  I told her I am going to be traveling for a year across country and how can I avoid problems with jury duty, as she said you get summoned once a year.  She said if you move out of state you have to inform the DMV within 10 days!  When I do leave, I'm not sure how to handle this.  I don't want to keep my CA residency, but don't have another address.  I don't see jury duty as something good at all, just a hindrance.  At least if you are going to kidnap me for however long and pay me just about nothing, at least get my address right!  I got it postponed.

My jury duty is finally over. Already served in March, it was 2 very long days, no pay. Was summoned again for the 2nd of this month, it was settled, and the last one on the docket was for the 16th, which also was settled, and now I'm done. Glad to be done with it, tbh. Very glad I didn't have to serve again this month, as it's finals week for me and would have been a real hardship, as it is for every one serving. Yet, I did my 'duty'.

If you keep your CA residency, you will continue to owe CA income tax every year.

There are three, maybe four states that nomads often change their official residency to, because there are no state income taxes in any of them, and because they make it easy for full time RV types to do so.  FL, TX, and SD are the well known ones.  Our fearless leader, BOB, uses NV and extols it's virtues.

We have a number of threads here on this subject, so much so that the sometimes conflicting information can be confusing.

Escapee's Club in TX claims that using their mailing address satisfies all current legal requirements and gives you a valid address for driver's license, vehicle registration and insurance, voting, etc.  TX has an annual vehicle inspection, but if you are out of state, you are fine - you just have to get it done within a few days of coming back to TX.

Here's a link to info on it

And some info on becoming a FL resident:

Actually, if your car is registered in Tx, you have to have it inspected to get your tags now, so inspection WILL be every year, this is a recent thing

OP,  Thanks!  Is NV one of the no-tax states?  Also, I was considering AZ because of the gun laws (no permit needed for concealed or is it open carry?)   Do you know anything about AZ and "valid address for driver's license, vehicle registration and insurance, voting, etc."?  I will have to check out those other threads.  So much information here, I get stuck here and not getting rid of my stuff so I can leave!  TY

AZ has a state income tax.  I believe this is why Bob is a NV resident, even though he spends about 99% of his time in AZ.

NV appears to be quite good about issuing concealed carry permits.  There is a safety course you must take in NV.  AZ recognizes the NV permit as valid in AZ.  Details:

Whew, dodged the old bullet again!  I was summoned for Jury Duty for May 15, Friday (Tomorrow).  Went onto the County Clerk website tonight, to find out my status.  Holy Moly, what a stupidly designed website!  First the one in the mailed form was not active, and they sent me to another site.  That one is so difficult to navigate you need to be very computer savvy to get around!  Took me three tries.  Hard to get where you need to go, and the 'candidate ID' number needed to login is hidden on the form - it  is NOT the 'pool number'.

I finally got what I needed to know, that I am released, my pool number was higher than those selected.
I did use their phone call in number just to verify, as the 'Status' on the website still isn't very clear.
So, I don't have to go in after all!  I will be at Mom's tomorrow.

I am new here and this is my first post, hope I do it right. I served on a federal grand jury a few years back. Totally different from a regular jury. First it lasts for several months. You go one day about every 2 weeks. It was amazing.

A grand jury is a legal body that is empowered to conduct official proceedings to investigate potential criminal conduct and to determine whether criminal charges should be brought. A grand jury may compel the production of documents and may compel the sworn testimony of witnesses to appear before it. A grand jury is separate from the courts, which do not preside over its functioning.

There was I think 20 of us and one alternate. We got to hear so many cases up for possible criminal charges. We heard many cases a day, involving drug smuggling, illegal aliens, parole violations, identity theft,  arson, even murder. Any individual on the grand jury could ask questions of the people brought in to testify, and request documents. Some who testified were just individuals, but many were the Prosecutors, U.S. Attorney, Federal Marshals, Law Enforcement, FBI, etc. After hearing each case we were left alone and voted if there was enough evidence to indict for a jury trial. No defendants, nor their attorneys are allowed to speak or be present at these hearings.

We were treated basically superior. Given all the canned drinks we wanted, coffee, cookies, crackers, candy bars. We did have to get our own lunch, :sleepy: .  I was honored to serve and learned a lot about how our justice system works.

Ok see I messed up and reposted the post. Had to scroll down to find the post new reply....won't happen again...sorry.

No problem. It was an interesting description of your experience. The one Federal jury I was called for was a single case, much like the County Court. I actually really wanted on that Federal case, as it involved an interest of mine. But, the selection experience did not go well. I was let go. Neither side wanted a juror with true knowledge of the subject.
