Somewhere around 4 or 5 years ago I wanted to go voluntarily mobile homeless (my term and joke in my family) and started working toward that goal. Over a couple year period, I dumped the stuff and the house. Bought a van and was fixing it up to hit the road. Then my mother got sick and needed care. My brother and I shared this until she passed last year. At this point I am clearing up her estate and working on the van again. Getting ready for the day I can leave. Four months later on her birthday, her brother (my uncle) was killed in a auto accident. I am named administrator. So again travel goes on the back burner and I spend the past year handling family affairs. I have now gotten both estate completed or at least not so time consuming. Now besides gas being much higher than when I first planned this, my son and daughter in law are having the baby they thought would never be. So I concede defeat. Somewhat anyway! I have purchases a rural acre and half of land in a town of 4000. On which I will install my 36 ft Prowler. So I guess I will be going homestead instead of mobile homeless. Hopefully in the future I will still be able to make some trips as there are places I want to see before I die and a few rallies I would like to make.

You're free as long as you think you are whether its on the road or in the prowler on your own acerage. Sorry about your mom and uncle but congrats on the upcoming grandchild. Its not time for you to hit the road yet, but it will be and hopefully I'll be out there to greet you...
Rae

Hey, good luck and congrats on the grandbaby.

And its still a cheap way to live, so you can put some money toward some awesome trips a few times a year to get your wandering fix.

Don't et them become dependent on you as a baby sitter lol. Seriously, it's YOUR time, now. Assist when absolutely necessary, or you just feel like it, but don't get tied down.

Thanks... It's good to know that even if I am more grounded than I would like to be .... When I can't go myself.... I can still armchair travel with you guys

@Seraphim.....I can't wait for her to be born (sonogram says girl).... There was only a very slim chance my only son could ever have kids. They have been married 5 years, never practiced birth control, and are both in their early thirties so this will probably be the only grandchild I ever have. I'll babysit for a while ... If I need a break.... I'll take a trip somewhere LOL

seems the more we plan the more the plans change... but...

grandchildren are delightful! congratulations and enjoy!
