Hi. We are pretty close to making the leap. I've done it before, full timing. My partner has not and has resisted mightily until now. The reality of the recession has finally allowed her to see the futility of staying connected to the system. We will likely be out of our rented house here in Palm Springs by end of June. We are fortunate that I still have my little grooming shop where we can park a motorhome. May have to do a bit of "stealth" since Riverside county, CA says you can't live in an rv unless it's in a park. But I have a huge private parking lot I have access to at my shop(was an old car dealership). Also there is another parking lot behind with 6' cyclone fence topped with razor wire. The back parking has a power pole with a breaker box but no H2o or septic. I'm thinking once a week drive around to the front lot to dump into the access at my shop and refill the water.
The slower easing into full timing would give my partner a chance to get used to this lifestyle. And convert the rv to solar/compost/etc. Also allow paying off the dastardly credit cards! So maybe by next spring we could truly hit the road. I'm a pet groomer and she's a chef/bartender/musician/dj/house painter/etc. Both very portable skills.
I haven't found the right rv yet. I really have a fondness for the oldies, but a previous baaad experience with one has me much more cautious. That said, I'm going to look at an '85 Allegro 27'.
We are 55 and 48, have 2 old Shih Tzus and 1 young Chihuahua.
I'm excited, anxious, and scared all at the same time!!!
