If you were in the wash "proper" it has a lot of loose sand to sink into. Don't drive in there with a regular car.

In September it was very soft but I did not get stuck with the van. Walking around I sank in in places. Is it like that all year or does it firm up at all?  ~crofter
 
Of course, Tyson Wash goes for miles, so conditions may vary. Similar for others. In my RWD van, I only "cross" over a wash if the road goes through it at right angles, such as those 3 or 4 washes going into the old RTR site. but I never turn to go up a wash. The flat areas between the washes are typically stone cold hardscrabble, and little chance of sinking in.
