Picked up a propane tank used for liquid or vapor applications it's 80% full and was wondering if any of you have experience with these I had one mounted under my old stepvan in a horizontal position. this one is labeled vertical only. What I know is they have a higher pressure rating and can be hazardous to propane regulators .

never mind it is a low pressure unit. just a lot more robust.

I'd be curious to see how you make use of the forklift tank. I had thought of doing the same but was told by someone here it is impossible. Keep us posted.

Propane is stored as a liquid. It boils (vaporizes) at -44 degrees F. The pressure inside the tank is dependent upon the outside temperature (of the tank).
At 70 degrees F the pressure is about 145 psi. At 130 degrees F the pressure is 315 psi.
The regulator is what determines high or low pressure use of the vapor. Turkey fryers usually are high pressure, backyard grills and RV's utilize low pressure regulators.

If you got that tank off of a forklift, it is only more robust for handling purposes. They are changed out frequently by rough and tumble warehouse/dock workers and the robustness is for length of service NOT for any pressure differences. Even though marked 'vertical', if it's liquid use the valve will be drawing liquid from the bottom via tube.

Don't ever make the mistake of using a liquid use tank (forklift) for stove or grill use. Quite the fire hazard! :(

I am curious, you say it's liquid or vapor how is that possible? 2 different outlets? highdesrtranger

It's the "pickup tube". Fork lifts use LIQUID. Everything else uses the VAPOUR. Huge difference. If you use a liquid tank, you will screw up your appliances. Have fun.

this tank has 2 outlets one is clearly marked "vapor" and the other just an outlet, I would assume liquid.

Using liquid propane in a vapor appliance, will burn your everything down. Yes, forklift tanks are plumbed for liquid or vapor. Use the correct outlet, no problem. Also, never store or use an upright type tank laying on it's side.

Got any question about what you have take it to a propane dealer and let them lay eyes on it ;)
Sure would hate to see my good friend taking the short train.

ah I see dual outlets. it's been awhile since I have seen a forklift tank, mine runs on gasoline. highdesertranger

Yep looks just like every forklift propane tank I've ever used... but I've never tried to run something other than a forklift off one. Keep us posted.
