Has anyone here tried a roof vent / fan set up?

We've hit some warm weather here and my van is baking tonight.

We have skeeter beaters on our front windows but there was no wind tonight.

Is the roof vent a crap show of a job?

Transit connect... Just scared shitless when it comes to doing things myself. Cutting a hole in the roof in included in that. Curious if there a service provider / RV dealer / etc that would be able to do it.

I saw a TC build somewhere that the guy put the fan at the top of one of the rear doors. I'll see if I can find the article.
I don't think I'd want to mess with hacking that nice headliner.

Why do you say that? Because it would ruin the aerodynamics of the vehicle? Otherwise it's a piece of sheet metal, there isn't an ounce of anything regardless of the body. No insulation, no interior fabric... Nothing

You have no interior fabric?  My TC cargo van has a very nice headliner with multiple lights.  Simply removing the liner is a PITA.

I'm also not a big fan (big fan!  Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!) of cutting holes in my van.

Nope, nothing... Pure metal!

A friend, who is retired and cruising the US in an RV, suggested a non-wired Solar fan just to draw air out during the day.

Those solar fans work well for small spaces. But still require cutting a hole in the roof. Like Bob said - not a big deal if taken slowly one step at a time. If you make it to one of the RTRs I'm sure you will get more help than you need.

I have an appointment at a Camping World location up in New Hampshire to take a look at the roof and to see what it can support.

I always figured if I installed a fan, I'd come up with a way to mount it in one of my sliding, screened windows.

Did you go with a vent or just the window?
