Florida Yellowknife Tuk 12,000 miles 21 days

When did you make the trip? Did you take the waterfall route from Yellowknife to Fort Simpson and then down to Fort Nelson? Did you try the Muctuck at Mama’s in Tuktoyaktuk? Did you make it into Alaska?

Guessing your rig is as cool looking on the inside as on the outside. Don't think I have seen a pop out window area on a van yet.

Have you shared pics of the inside? I would like to see them.

Left Florida Sept. 4. Was back Sept. 21.

From Yellowknife took Fort Liard Higway. Didn’t drive to Fort Simpson. In fact you can drive further all the way to Wrigley if you go to Fort Simpson. Fact is that by the time I arrived at the intersection, to turn right towards Fort Simpson or to continue towards Fort Liard, I still had 2,060 miles to go to get to Tuktoyaktuk. So I pressed on with the business of getting there.

No, from the Fort Liard Highway you hook up a bit North of Fort Nelson to the Alaska Highway. So I turned right in the direction of White Horse. On the way back of course, I passed through Fort Nelson.

No, although I knew about Grandma’s Kitchen in Tuk, I didn’t go.

I could have driven from Dawson City to Chicken on the Alaska side, but I have driven the Top of the World Road before. I have driven 5 times to Alaska before and know all the State's roads inside out. So for me there was no particular interest in making a detour into Alaska.

My goal here was to make it to Yellowknife (and I also drove the little Ingraham Trail to lake Tibbitt where it ends) and then to Tuk.

Wow. I'd love to go there. It is gorgeous. I will need a huge reserve before tackling that trip. My truck is a '95 F250. Just hit 100K miles... but I can't fix much of anything if it breaks down.

You probably made the trip to Tuktoyaktuk about the same time I did. I returned to Eagle Plains the day before the truck damaged the bridge at Eagle River. I drove the Campbell over to Watson Lake and later down to Fort Nelson to refuel before going back up highway 77 to Fort Laird. Wow. I'd love to go there. It is gorgeous. I will need a huge reserve before tackling that trip. My truck is a '95 F250. Just hit 100K miles... but I can't fix much of anything if it breaks down.

Don’t try to drive the Dempster Highway to Tuktoyaktuk in your current truck. It is 1,150 miles (roundtrip) of thick mud, a zillion unavoidable potholes and gravel.

There are a ton of gorgeous destinations at the end of friendly and comfortable highways.
