DD....truth be known, I love everything I've seen in our beautiful nation.
No matter the conditions, there's always something wonderful to see and good folks to meet.
I'm originally from a working cattle ranch in West Texas, but the deserts of Az are special to me and I have adopted them as my homeland.

I tease people from other places, but first and foremost, I'm an American and I'll stand beside you to defend your right live and love where you please.

I've been up in Vt, Ct, NY, Mass, etc, and I plan to show Margie that part of the country some summer.

Long live the Red, White, and Blue :)

I gotta admit, the White Mountains of New Hampshire are gorgeous. One of the few places east of the Rockies I'd consider living. But it's too cold there!!!

The Rockies are just as cold, but the're only a few hundred miles from the desert and warmth!!!

IMG_0145.JPGMaybe because I lived in Florida and never saw snow until I was 40, I can't get enough of the white stuff. My Poodles love it too. Got on skis for the first (and probably last) time on my 53rd birthday. While everybody I know is going south to retire, I'm heading back to the White Mountains. I'm looking forward to my trip out west though. As a vandweller, I can have the best of both worlds.wild child.jpg

If you would spend just one winter in Florida you would never go back to Arizona in the winter and deal with cold nights dust and no shade.

Plus the cougar hunting in FLA is the best in the nation!

MrLooRead, my mom is in florida so I've spent quite a few months in the winter visiting her. I'll admit, you're right, the winter months are far better there.

But, speaking only for me, I can't even possibly consider living in a state where the high point is 300 feet! I have a pathological need for mountains!!! I go into withdrawal and start to shrivel up and die!! It's not pretty, you don't want to see it! All the places I winter at in Arizona have plenty of mountains within walking distance

John Muir spoke for me when he said:

"The mountains are calling, and I must go!"

so at what point do you evac?

>>> As a camper, I'd evac right away, probably before the "Mounties" arrived.
As a homeowner, like many, I'd probably hang in as long as I could to get things in order and try to save what I could, just as many others do.

Loo...I ported my sailboat in Fla for 5 yrs and lived aboard for that time. I traveled the Gulf Coast from the tip of the Keys to the tip of Mexico.
I enjoyed the nice southern winters, but as Mr. Wells noted, the mountains do call. For me, the desert speaks loudly also.

Hunting??? I'd only hunt to feed myself if I had to and only small game since I don't have a family to care for.
Each to their own, but I see no thrill in sport killing. Nature has a balance and like wolves being hunted out (and other species), the balance was greatly upset. If you were a rancher (as I grew up), you would know how adversely that upset balance effected them.
That's all I'll say cuz I don't wanna get into "one of those" conversations that gets us in trouble around here.
