It's a shame how places are getting trashed, but that is very different than camping more than 300 ft from the road in remote areas.

I'm feeling the urge to go on a little segue about rules, so... any person who is aware of why public land rules are made and enforced, should realize that they are a proxy for something. They don't actually care about 14 day stays and camping too far from the road, they care about "trashing the place", dominating camp sites, leaving garbage, annoying weekend campers and nearby residents, etc.

If there are bunch of SxSs or similar vehicles going "cross country" for fun, then they can't help but cause a lot of destruction. But how do you make a simple rule that you can use to ticket people for this? After all, they can just say they were looking for a camp spot. The 300 ft rule gives the ranger a violation that can be used for issuing tickets.

The 14 day stay limit is similar. If you are camping miles from anyone else where no one is going, and you are leaving no trace, then there isn't really a problem. Who's to complain? That doesn't mean a ranger with a "rules are rules" fetish won't kick you out, but they generally have more important things to deal with.
You are normally hard pressed to find a Ranger as they are usually only in the remote areas during emergencies. Most of their time is spent getting to or from more used areas as more people cause more problems. Budgets are not in place to properly hire enough to do their primary job of providing safety never the less preserving the resources in my opinion.

My wallet is empty.
My bank account is drained.
I have nothing left for their 'budgets'.

And, now, back to our regularly scheduled programming!
Merry Christmas! Lol!!! Just like most of us!

Wow, giving bad advice suggesting to violate the rules to new campers online. Literally broadcasting suggestions to the world, instread of suggesting to follow the rules that protect the land and volunteer help.

I will personally call the rangers on your sorry tail.

Because of people like that they close or restrict areas for everyone.

I hava feeling some are stuck in the 90s thinking thigs havent changed. Well: they have changed. Those who advise to break the public land rules, hope you get tresspassed from the National Forest, already happened to some.

Start a wildfire out there with your sorry tail vehicle, generator or illegal campfire and you are going down for homicide.

It was fun to watch CalFire deal with those who dont give a darn about public land rules, amazing response times. They need to start fining 10k and be done with it, source of funding for public lands right there

Just fixed some road barriers wildlife refuge put up that were moved by the trash on wheels. Going to report this to the refuge. Keep doing it and you will have nowhere to camp at all. Keep breaking the rules and you will lose access.

Just to let ya know, the locals are watching too, and they will call the ranger if they spot you out there. They dont want wildfires, trash, meth labs, vegetation damage, etc just like law abiding campers dont wan't that. Some places, the locals are starting own enforcement and will approach you, can't blame them. You might think tou broke the rules and hid out there, but lands are full of people on foot too, some with binoculars and they know where you are.

What are you responding to?

Didn't read all 3 pages of the bickering...so maybe it's already been covered...but to add actual substance to OP's request...

I just responded in the free camp sites thread with the same thing I'm about to say here...I swear I'm not shilling for the app, lol - I made extensive use of the iOverlander Android app this past summer while on a road trip from Arizona to Michigan and back to find sites to set up the tent. My van wasn't ready to go, so I decided to impulse buy a roof top tent for the truck, and make an adventure of the trip.

The app was great for finding spots "on the fly" so to speak, in that I could pull up a map based on my current GPS located position, and found a bunch of great spots that were hidden well enough that I could have walked around naked as a jaybird the entire time without having to be concerned about being spotted, lol.

.
Me, too!

And speaking of boondocking 'spotted' and 'spotted' boondocking, how many remember the 1978 classic perennial-favorite movie ANIMAL HOUSE?
In it, the central character of 'Pinto', portrayed by Tom Hulce (portraying Mozart in the 1984 flick AMADEUS), earned his call-sign because of his spotted pxcker!
.
I thought you would like to know.
.
An aside:
ANIMAL HOUSE also has a character named 'Boone'.
And so, the circle continues.

Found my old favourite site trashed by vandals!
Someone put it, a pristine spot, online 3 years ago and this had ruined it.
Now it got feces and TP covered behind the space, the sitting spot under tree shade covered in tons of dried urine (clearly constantly dumping urine bottles there!), s**** on creek bottoms too, trash, painted rocks (criminal vandalism), they even sawn off big living tree branches and this is while plants are so stressed by this drought and barely surviving!
I will send a report with pictures to BLM, they might shut down entire road or limit to self contained rigs only, with rv plumbing.
Enough is enough. Trash on wheels, they need a 5 year cool down period, may be they can reopen roads after that if people come to senses.
This is in general Quartzsite region, which will be under severe impact after LTVA fee hike. They say fee hike will expel the Slab City and thief types out of ltvas, well guess where these will go?
These trash on wheels already openly say in Quartzsite facebook group muh freedom to drive 50mph by camps dusting them out in 15mpg zones blah blah, well they will find out soon when closures begin.
I hauled out many truckloads of trash from public lands in the past, cleaned up lots of TP too, but not touching this s**** field they made, I just took the trash I found. Closure is the only way, there is no hope I guess
Those who call to break the rules saying not enough ranger manpower - well there is citizen power and plate numbers will be taken down and reported too and roads petitioned to be shut down

Luckily found a better site from which cant see a single rig too after nasty creek crossing.

Keep breaking the rules and you will be living in your true home, Slab City, until that gets shut down too and you move under thr bridge.
Will be photographing and documenting the land abuses and campaigining with land agencies to close those places down. Dont like it? Get over it. We got the bigger guns, so to speak. And we are not afraid of you, cowards, and are fully ready and equipped to deal with yu

Hateful, entitled bigot with little teeny life experience.
Yeah, we had been suffering attacks includung physical assaults, from the likes of you hateful, fake, deluded bigot, so we have to spend time getting ready to defend ourselves aganst your ilk and watching our back out there. Fear is what you try to instsll in us our whole life but we do not fear your ilk anymore we just dont want your likes around and do not even want to breathe the same air with what you are.
So come around my remote camp running mouth calling me a coward like you people used to in your deluded entitlement and ya will see if I really fear ya. I had seen war, you bubble dwelling toddling creature I can show you what fear really means
