I have ScanGauge's installed on Ford diesels 7.3 & 6.0, and also several family and friends Ford diesels of various years as well without one single incident and many other various imports and domestic's diesel and gasoline also. I did after reading the couple or so post indicating idling problems after plugging the ScanGauge in and never hearing anyone say this or experiencing this personally decided to call ScanGauge this morning, they informed me they would be more then happy to talk with you directly if your experiencing any problem/issues with your monitor. Customer support is great at ScanGauge.

Update: Went to Auto Zone this morning and had them read the codes. Came up with one fault, "low injector fuel rail pressure."

At this point I knew more than I knew before I arrived, and decided having a code reader would be a good thing to have. I purchased a Innova 3040 reader. Hitched it up to my 7.3 when I arrived by home; got the same fault code; and reset the code ("erased" the code).

Truck returned to its former faultless self; no stumbling at idle; no loss of power.

Plus, I avoided getting screwed by my local Ford dealer.

I am smarter than I was; I am invincible . . . I am able to leap tall buildings in a single bound!

Thanks for all the help provided here. Probably couldn't have done this on my own.

speedhighway46,

I'm very glad to read you resolved your truck's idling issue, in re-reading your post #19. "Plugged in a friends OBDII reader and immediately started running rough and stalling. Unplugged it and it ran better, but still not right." I am not clear the OBDII reader that you first referenced using belonging to your friend, was actually a ScanGauge? In your post you never mentioned it by name-brand, can you confirm it was or was not? I started this post specifically on the "usefulness of the ScanGauge specifically," and if in fact you used another device it would seem only reasonable to remove the blame from the ScanGauge as the root cause of the developed issue.

For your reference to identify this was the device/brand you used initially; http://www.scangauge.com/

And yes I completely agree with your statement, "Plus, I avoided getting screwed by my local Ford dealer." Well done Sir!, a very successful mission.

DL: the first unit WAS NOT a ScanGauge and it did not mention it by name by intention. However, since you asked, the first half unit was a new from from Harbor Freight; a low end unit.

Hope this "sets the record" straight.

speedhighway46,

Thank you very much for your further clarification as to which code reader created your idling issue, and also sharing your real time experience with a Harbor Freight code reader as well.

Yet another example of why people should not be buying cheap Chinese crap from Harbor Freight.  Not only did it not work, plugging it in actually screwed up your vehicle!
