I was wondering about this the other day. Since I cannot push my front driver/passenger seats back due to the partition wall, is that going to be a problem for a mechanic to access my engine under the doghouse? I really wont be able to adjust the wall so I guess my only other option is to remove the seat(s)?

Thoughts?

Umm, yep, that will be the only way to get the engine cowling off.

Both seats and bases will have to be pulled...maybe. You might be able to get away with just the seats if you're lucky.

IDK know what Van you have but on my 2007 Ford E-150 both seats can be removed easily. Four bolts on each base(there Torx) and there out. Adds about 15 minutes to removing and about the same installing them, so an additional 1/2 hour labor would be fair.

Not to mention it's so much easier to work on with them out any how.

Thanks for the replies. Alot of contractor vans have partitions so I'm sure isnt that much of an oddity. However, I usually use "backyard' mechanics off CL so not sure how'd they'd react. I guess I can always just take the seats out myself.

when I had my shop if we did anything more than minor work on a van engine, we would pop out the seats. makes working on them so much easier. highdesertranger
