Yesterday I was actually able to make a Big Dent in one of my storage units.  Whoopee!  Queenie lay on her pillow in her "you do it I'm just watching mode".

The main reason I was able to spend several hours working was because I  had some good shade.  A few months ago at my favorite dumpster I found a big cover of some sort.  Tan on the outside and silver color underneath & with tie down cords.  It was very clean and only one small tear.      Yesterday I tied it to the handle of the big over head door on the storage unit and raised it about 6ft.  This cover is so big that it went completely over the Safari covering the windshield, the roof, the rear door winsows and the drivers side.  I couldn't believe how nice it was under the cover,  I had about 5ft between the van and the storage unit with a nice breeze blowing thru.  I was able to sit in a lawn chair and go thru boxes and totes so I didn't have to stand up for several hours...not that I could anyways.

I filled the van twice with "go aways", loaded from front seats to 3rd row seat to within about 1ft of the roof, and also passed along 2 bags of good clothes to someone at the storage facility.  A good day!      :D :p :) :D

I was in doubt that I'd ever make any true progress on downsizing so that I can start making trips in the van with or without the Aliner.  As soon as I get this 3rd load of laundry hung up it's back to the storage.

gettin it done! nice find, I've scored some neat stuff out of dumpsters myself, here and there

Nationally, dumpster diving is generally legal in all states, with 'optional' local rules against it.

It seems to me that the less stuff that goes to the landfill, the better, but that's just my narrow-minded opinion. Some transfer stations even have tables where people can drop off usable stuff, and others can take it for free, and it stays out of the landfill, a win/win/win situation.

I remember going to the landfill as a kid, and getting a lot of bike parts.  The guy at the gate had a business selling things for next to nothing.  The owner of the land fill had no problem with his employes doing that. It kept them happy and working.
