I was a truck driver for 13 years, as some of you were also..
This post is not for the people who know the information

it is for people who do not know..

since most vehicles on the road today are Automatic..

how many of you actually use your transmission correctly??

there are 2 gears many people seldom even know what they are for, let alone use them

So, if you drive correctly and give yourself enough Following distance, your transmission, can save a lot of ware and tear on your brakes

You can use it to slow down and not even touch your brakes

Are you constantly on your brake pedal when you are going down a hill or do you just go real fast? Well your low gear can help you not to use your brakes or use your breaks less often..

Take your foot off the gas pedal and shift it in to low, your transmission will do the work..

Just a little FYI

I was once trying to instruct a group of people how to drive down a steep, winding snow covered dirt road after they had turned down my suggestion to park at the bottom of the hill before the snow started.  None of them believed me when I said they could brake or steer but they couldn't do both at the same time.  Very few knew what to do when I told them to put their vehicles in the lowest gear.

I've twice taken a vehicle to a garage because of horrible noises when I used the brakes.  One was a standard.  One was an automatic.  Both times I was told that I didn't use the brakes enough, especially when it rained.  They had rust on them.

Not only do I think that there are a lot of people who have no idea what those numbers on the shifter are; I think there are a lot of people who drive with one foot on each pedal.  Where I would lift the gas foot to slow down, they keep on the gas and use the brake to slow down.  Many time I watch vehicles passing in the left lane, up hill, faster than everyone else and the brake lights come on at every curve in the road.

Those facts are directly proportional to the number of people who never, ever look at their owner's manual.
