If your living out of your car and you can't find or get to a bathroom and when you can't go out in the open, what can you do in terms of number 2?

Setting a bucket on a back seat doesn't seem practical because of lack of head room in a car. It might be barely workable for someone with a short torso. A lined bedpan might work

Setting a bucket on the floorboard might not work because you have your bed taking up part of the back seat area.

Any suggestions?

For about $25 you can get a "toilet tent" from places like Amazon or sporting goods stores, though it might draw a little bit of attention from passers-by.
Depends on where you're parked.

What kind of car do you have?  Maybe you could hang a simple plastic tarp from the doors, assuming it's a 4-door, so it creates an enclosed area next to the car.  Hey, if you're willing to poop in a bucket inside a passenger-car in a public place, how much of a stretch would it be to do it next to your car, under a tarp??  And that system would reduce any unpleasant smells inside the vehicle.

The tarp or the tent would allow you to use a full-sized bucket with a seat for a more comfortable bathroom visit.

In the Prius, I use a 2-gallon bucket on the back passenger seat. But, I'm both short and have a short torso. If you have a long torso, I'd try a bed pan. But, I wouldn't use a plastic one as they seem flimsy to me. I'd find one of the heavy-duty larger stainless steel bed pans.

Ewww! Really! I like the plastic tarp or potty tent idea. But pooping in the same tiny place that one sleeps and eats and stores ones food ...... just ewwww!

Myway_1,

Like Suanne, I also use a 2 gal pail in my Prius and I'm 6'. In my setup I remove the rear seat bottom and seat back to increase storage and gain height behind the drivers seat where the passenger would sit. I made a flat plywood platform to sit on and for my pail to sit flat when needed. My bed is made mostly permanent on the other side. Although not the best it does work for me.

Gcal, no worries, at the RTR everyone poops in a bucket while sitting on the roof of their rig. That's the required procedure, you'll get used to it or you won't. Could be a long couple of weeks. *!*

Hey, no one told me about THAT requirement... :dodgy:

I, for one, am NOT getting up on the top of my van, not for pooping nor for any other purpose. I'm afraid of heights.

Guess I'll just have to park outside the RTR 'official' zone and commute... :p

I am NOT going on my solar panels.  Can I use your van roof?  I have my own bucket!   :)

You'll get used to it, Bob has a video showing proper procedure and some great tips for attracting an audience beforehand, right Bob?

Please.........Have a little respect for one of my favorite things in life.A good crap!

OK. Different strokes for different folks. But blizzard, bears, hail, driving rain and vampire bats, I, personally, would still set up a potty tent and use it.

I don't like to poop in my van but have gotten used to it. I use a small bucket lined with plastic and 'baby clean-up wipes', I never mix liquid with solid....also immediately the 'package' leaves my van as I cannot and will not carry it along with me. I weigh 150 # so a small bucket works. When living in the forest or desert I can make other arrangements. My favorite are 'cat-holes. Oh, burning a stick of Nag Champa makes everything alright to the nose too. If I am at a reasonable distance I will use the bucket outdoors....nobody wants to look at an 'old skinny ass' anyway.

My mind is boggled trying to find a situation where I would need to take a poop inside my SUV. The back area is too low to sit up in, much less squat over a bucket. The driver's seat is too cramped, and the passenger seat is filled with gear.

I eat a low fiber diet when I travel, so I have plenty of warning.

Summer 2015 I went on a multiday guided white water rafting trip. They set up toilet for #2, called a groover, off the trail above the nightly camps. It's semiprivate. Often you can see camp &/or the river. One night, it looked like we had some weather blowing in so I rushed up there to do my business before a downpour hit. I'm up there doing my thing, weather is threatening more & more, suddenly I hear a yell, look down at the river & there's another guide company's raft sitting in the river with the guide looking right up at me yelling, "Hey! On the groover!!!" I was semi mortified, but what are ya gonna do? I thought briefly about standing & mooning. LOL! Instead I just waved. Bad weather never hit. I finished my business & returned to camp with a story to tell around the campfire.

Ah yes, the "Groover".  I remember them well from my days in the whitewater business in Moab back in '89-'90.
The only thing worse than using them was emptying them into the huge tank at Height Marina on Lake Powell.  Yuck, talk about a stench!  :s

That's me (24 years old) at the helm.
(I was hauling supplies to build a stage so the Utah Ballet could perform on the banks of the Colorado River).

Are those stage hands you are also hauling? Roadies always have the greatest thighs (I bet Popeye will back me up on that). LOL I know it's off topic, but roadies do #2 on the road, don't they? :p
