Do I have the right battery and inverter?

I went to Walmart and got the only deep cycle battery they had: a 29v, 122amp hr Everstart.

And I got the only inverter they had too: a 750watt/1500peak Schumacher XI75DU with digital display that shows wattage being drawn by devices.

First of all, whenever I look up info on batteries it always talks about 12v batteries. IDK if 29v is the same thing or if it will mess my stuff up.

I hooked a home box fan up to this setup and it seemed to have messed my fan up. The motor started making weird noises afterwards, even when on house power. It only drew 40w on medium and 70 on hi. Either the inverter is junk, the battery voltage is messing stuff up, or this fan has too many amps and isn't made for this type of setup.

The problem with that last option is that the inverter shows power tools on the back, showing you can use them safely with it. Power tools would draw much more than this fan.

I mainly got this setup to work with a solar panel I have coming in the mail. I got a 100w ultra thin panel from Amazon and a charge controller. I was planning on mostly powering fans with this setup to help mitigate heat issues.

I hope this works. Or should I take these back and get a different battery/inverter combo?

at first I thought the 29v was a typo. got a link to that battery? something is not right. highdesertranger

I think what you have is a series 29 battery, which is a 12 Volt marine battery. These are ok for your use.
That inverter should be correct also. Why your fan is acting odd I have no idea...should work without a problem.
Have you plugged in anything else??

Also, probably return the inverter...how much did you pay for it, or is it this one?  Walmart 750w Inverter

With inverters in that price range, nearly all the Specs and claims are lies and the quality poor. Not only that, but using an inverter wastes battery power with inefficiency.

Fortunately, for your intended uses I don't think you even need an inverter...just use 12v fans: Walmart 12v Fan.  With something like that, you could just snip off the ciggy plug and wire it directly.

You might consider adding a small, fused switch panel like this: SeaSense 3 Gang Toggle

LAptops can ditch the wall warts and go direct 12v:  Targus

First thing to check would be the wire gauge and length. Too small or too long will not work. Also that inverter is a cheap one, but should work. I also recommend 12 volt fans or even D cell fans.

Plug a volt meter into that inverter and see what the voltage is coming off of it.

This is the battery. OK, so this is 12v then? The 29dc must be a model number or something. I swear it said volts somewhere. Oh well.

@brad Yeah that's the inverter. And I do have a 12v fan with battery backup I think I got from Walmart some time back. It only uses 5watts on hi, at least that's what the display on the inverter says. I was thinking a box fan may move more air but the 12v fan puts out comparable air on hi so I suppose I could get about 7 more DC fans and blow air like a madman and it'd take the same power as one box fan on medium. #windycityonwheels

Some of the stuff I'm getting works off DC and only has wires for hookups. I'll have to put them all directly on the battery, or is it better/safer to plug them into a device that runs to the battery like that SeaSense 3 Gang Toggle mentioned?
