Heyo! My names Beryl, I am currently working towards getting a van of my own and getting out into the world!
Currently I am staying on a friends couch, they have been nice enough to let me stay as long as I need but I really want to have a place of my own.  I'm 37 and I have always wanted to live in a van, in the past things like power and internet stopped me but now those things are no longer issues thanks to technology. I plan on doing it the rest of my life.
Right now I have a broken down family minivan (2005 ford freestar) that needs a new transmission, I figure that its much cheaper to fix then trying to find a whole new van so I am planning on converting it. I gave myself until next September to get it all done, but secretly I'm hoping I can do it by summer. I can not wait to meet other nomads out there, and I want to help on the next years van builds.

Hello Rasterbeast! Welcome to the forum. Awesome plan to work with what you have and go from there. Have fun with your build!    ~crofter

Welcome Beryl to the CRVL forums! To help you learn the ins and outs of these forums, this "Tips, Tricks and Rules" post lists some helpful information to get you started.

Most of our rules boil down to two simple over-riding principles: 1) What you post should provide good information (like your introductory post), and 2) Any response to someone else's post should make them feel glad they are part of this forum community.

We look forward to hearing more from you.

Welcome to the CRVL Forums   :)

I hope your transmission can be fixed easily.  Have the sensors, fuses, connection in the computer wiring etc in it been checked out ?  It could be something simple.  Get some second opinions and check out the link below.   (I once had a car that had two sensors in the transmission.  They cost $28 dollars for both but it only took one to fix it's problem and get it running again.  Installed both sensors and drove it for 3 more years before I sold it.  A Transmission Shop had wanted $4000 saying it needed rebuilt without really trouble shooting it to see if it could just be fixed)

If you are able to get it up and running again check out the two links below in my signature line. (in green)

The first link may help you set up your rig.  The second will be helpful once you go on the road....but thru the winter months get familiar with it and the "Trip Planning" section in the Links Portal.
