OK, so we can't burn any native wood in Quartzsite... All meals propane? That will get damned expensive! I see camp fire circles set up...what have they been burning?
Matt

I get almost 2 weeks on a 1 lb. propane bottle doing two meals a day on a Coleman travel grill/stove: bacon and eggs for breakfast, grill something for dinner.  ~$2.75 per bottle.  Definitely need to shelter from wind or cooking times (and propane usage) go way up.

Another possibility that I didn't see mentioned is a Coleman 2 burner white gas stove.  I see them often in thrift stores at ~$10.  A gallon of Coleman fuel would last me all winter.

Just a reminder on the circumstances -- Matt is traveling in a CAR and what he already has is a rocket stove. (unless I somewhere missed that he also has propane). I'm sure there is zero room for a bulk propane tank. Edit: Just looked back at the beginning of this thread... his circumstances are not spelled out here; that was on another thread about finding a place to camp and get a job in Quartzite.

And he is down to his last hundred and change until he gets a job. So we are looking for FREE sources if at all possible.

Actually, i'm down to $19... Half a tank of gas and hoping I can get a job within distance of my bike, which I did bring from ny... My brother, Chris is with me and has a bike and a burning desire to work soon toowithin range of his bike. Since it seems I neglected to mention it, i'm carrying a single burner and a half full 5 gallon propane tank since I knew there would be places I couldn't light a fire. Problem is in this wind here that will go real fast which is why I stick with wood and rocket stove as much as possible. Lol I also only have 8 days of Verizon service left for internet... But I did get my tracfone active again for my job search, though I am at a loss what to put for address on my application

A windshield reflector, oven bag and black pot with lid makes a basic solar cooker. I bet you could get the items at a dollar store.
