I figured I'd hijacked Bobs thread enough trying to get a convoy to the RTR. Here is the itinery that Roadtrippers came up with. I have never been to most of these states in January so if you see a "No Way in the winter" highway could you please let me know. Any must sees on these roads would also be greatly appreciated. Going and want to jump in, glad to have you!

You will almost certainly run into snow around cleveland. Once you get halfways to columbus you will be out of the lake effect snow.

That's the short way but the wrong way.

Just 110 miles longer and a you can bypass all the mid western rust belt cities.

2663 miles via Us209>PA33>I-78>I-81>I-40>US89>71>Us60

This is the route an 18 wheeler would use.

I will be going to Fla via I-81>I-77>I-26>I-95>FL100>US301>I-75
Just 20 miles or so longer but no DC Richmond-Petersburg nightmare.

I live on US209 and know most of those roads Mr LooRead so I'm inclined to follow your route. Thanks for the info. 2 hours is nothing if it avoids a city or two.

You need to break it down into days and breaks within days (gas stops/meals)--most people would probably join at one of these breaks.

How big a rush are you in? Do you want to stop and visit some sites on the way?

Bob suggested on the RTR thread that you drop down to I-20 or I-10 instead of staying on I-40. I know that you're planning to meet and travel with some Ohio members but heading south as soon as possible is a good idea. Interstates in the west actually close at times until the roads can be cleared of snow.

You could stay on I-44 through Oklahoma City and then go south on any of the secondary roads until you hit I-20. If you do decide to stay on I-40 take I-17 south to Phoenix. Don't try driving through the mountains. I hate interstates too but we've made trips across the US from PA many times in the winter and staying on the interstate and as far south as possible is really the best way to go.

2731 miles if you take I-30 at Little Rock then I-20 at Dallas then !-10 in West Texas

2786 miles at Knoxville take I-59 to Birmingham then I-20 to I-10

The route you are taking through Arizona is very pretty but it is all high mountain curving winding road through snow. I would NOT go that way.

Drop south no later than Texas.
Bob
