I bought a Class B, 2011 PleasureWay Excel TS.  Ford E-350, 5.4L V8. 23,600 miles on the odometer.  Remember the Alka Seltzer ad from years ago?  "I can't believe I ate the whole thing."

Four years ago (has it been that long?), I sold everything, moved into my E-150 and bummed around. Until my grandson was born.  Bought a 15' TT, parked it in an RV park near baby, spent six months as his full time caregiver.  When I went back on the road in my van, I missed him so much I returned home.  Traded up to a 31' fifth wheel, parked in same RV park, sold my van and bought a minivan to carry kids, and have been very involved with baby (now three yrs old) and now his little brother, too.  I have become very attached to these two little boys.  When they see me, I have to go down on my knees because they run (the littlest toddles) to me with huge smiles on their little faces, yelling "Gramma! Gramma!", throw their little arms around me, and my old scarred heart fills with joy.

Two months ago, their mother (my daughter), accepted a job in California. 1,750 miles away. She hopes to return here in a couple of years.  (I will not cry, I will not cry, I will not cry. Oh shit, I'm crying.  I hate sissies!). I cannot afford Cali, even though she has offered to subsidize my moving there.

So I now have two RV's, the fiver which will be my home base in Texas, and the PleasureWay class B, which will take me to Cali and my babies!  The next two weeks, I will be helping them get moved and getting the B ready to go.  Even though my heart is breaking at their leaving, I am also excited with the new adventures waiting for me out there.

This purchase was a tough decision!  It made a big dent in my savings and a loan (!!), which I haven't had in years.  But you know how things happen...two weeks after I signed everything, out of the blue, my mother called and said she is sending all us kids a check, enough to almost replace what I had spent on the big down payment!  It was meant to be? A sign?

Lol!  My little soul mate loves the new RV!  He loves "projects", so last week he helped me cut the shelf liners, we measured ("You hold that end of the tape meaure. OK, Gramma!") I drew the lines, and he used the grown up scissors ("I'll be careful, Gramma, i can get a bad owwie!") and next week we will do the reflectix for the windows.

Who knows what's just around the corner in this life? Just when I think I have it all figured out, bam!  Everything changes!  And away we go!

Chasing windmills!  Again.

Wow, Stargazer, that was really beautiful! So much love in your life, and now more adventure too, you got it made sister.

Queen,

Thank you. Sometimes I think I don't deserve this. But then I remember the dues I've paid. Worth every wound!

Exactly.

How cool is it going to be when little dude is old enough to go off on an adventure with you!!

Your thread title "Chasing Windmills" is GREAT!

With this life you will also be "Chasing Rainbows"

Good luck!

Sounds like you got a little adventurer in the makings there, awesome! Best of luck on your new adventures! :)

Phantom Blooper: Thank you! One of my favorites from The Man of LaMancha. Some days I'm Sancho, some days I'm Dulcinea, and other days I'm Don Quixote ?. "Chasing rainbows". I love it!

Queen and Theadyn: He is a little adventurer. The reason I chose this B is because it has seat belts on the rear sofa facing forward. Yep! I hope to take him to some great places in CA, maybe the giant redwoods! The Pacific! And on and on. I can't wait.

The process continues...

Last week, my daughter and I flew (yuck!) out to Cali with the boys. Their father is already out there. We stayed five days and flew back here in time to meet the movers at her house here. They delivered everything to the apartment in Cali yesterday, she finishes up her last day at this job tomorrow, then flies out there on Saturday to join her family and unpack everything in their new place. Then it's finished and we all begin our new lives!

Meanwhile, I'm getting the van ready to roll. Lessons learned: the inside was pristine and everything worked so I thought the previous owner had done a good job maintaining it. NOT! While sanitizing the fresh water tank, I found the anode rod on the water heater was eaten up and the water heater had lots of scale in it. Flushed it all out, replaced the rod, went inside, ran water in all the faucets, and immediately stopped up all the faucet screens with crud, including the line that feeds the toilet. Had a tech remove the toilet and fixed that. Managed to break off the drain plug on the tank, replaced that. All is well now. But seeing that has me checking out everything else very closely. Even though the generator shows only 63 hours on it, I don't trust that it was maintained properly so I have a tech coming out to change the oil, spark plug, (and show me how to do it) and run it under load. I am not a lover of generators but there it is so will take care of it before I leave. The engine oil needs changing; went to three different places yesterday before finding someone to do it (this morning at 8:30). It can't be placed on a lift due to the plumbing etc underneath and I won't use Jiffy Lube type places (don't ask why!). But that will be done today. And I will learn how to do it myself in the future. Will probably replace both batteries in the near future, too. I ordered an RV surge protector and Skreenz for the front door windows. Started the reflectix on the windows but not happy with it so am rethinking that. There are nice curtains on it now but I really want blackout and more insulation so we shall see what I end up doing. What I did in my previous van won't work in this one. The big lesson here is that I'm discovering I can do lots of this myself and am using every opportunity to learn how it all works. It gives me a sense of pride and confidence. Whudda thunk?

I also have vet appt for my furry companion and will refill her meds for a six month supply. Gotta do the same for myself, too. Am asking a friend to forward any important mail. My passport will be renewed before I leave (I hope). Still haven't received the new plates for the van, waiting on that. Dentist next Tuesday (bleh! a necessary evil, IMO).

It'll be several weeks before I am ready to leave here and head west. Plan to meander my way through NM, AZ, wherever the roads lead toward CA eventually. Maybe I'll see some of you out there!

Move over, here I come! (Again.)
