Working toward getting out on the road, you know, cleaning stuff out selling it on eBay or giving it away. Planning timeframe to hit road ... 1.5 yrs, so I consolidated my bills about a month ago, got payments down to 1/2 what was paying with earlier payoff time ... was all excited cause figured I'd be able to occasionally make double payments, then my partial breaks ($1917 to do new one cause old broke in metal part), then my glasses go phooey so even cheaply done glasses'll cost another couple of hundred

I guess it's not totally hopeless but darn it all ... seems 3 steps back for every step forward ... I have a Nissan Versa making payments on it.  1.5 yr lease with roommate/aunt so I can't just hop in my car to live. I could list a gazillion excuses ...

I'm upset and feeling rather hopeless instead of hopeful today ... I'm gona JB Weld my partial ... it's nontoxic once set ... then I'll think about alternatives.

Thanks for listening ...

Sorry you are having setbacks. Any chance you could talk to your Aunt/Roommate and tell her you will help find a new roommate for her so you can move out? Then you could apply rent money to the other bills.

The owner won't let us "sublet" on a current lease (we lease a house not in apt).  I mean it's not the end of the world but when roadblocks keep happening when I'm going in a certain direction I sometimes think the "Universe" "God" (whatever you believe in) is telling me something ...

I've repaired the partial just have to file down, make comfy all that stuff.  I'm so unwell most of the time I get discouraged when stuff keeps jumping in my path ...

Fortunately, this too shall pass! 8+)

I understand. I have had several setbacks myself. I think the Universe sometimes is not in sync with our time frames but it's usually for a greater good. Stay focused on your desired outcome and I believe things will begin to shift for you. Start doing what you can. Maybe it is just learning and research for now, but it is sure to save you time and money in the long run. Don't forget to use this time for self care as well. Prayer, meditation, whatever helps you stay relaxed and focused on your goals.

Good luck!

Thanks SSW for the words of encouragement! Have a Blessed day!

There are inexpensive repair kits available at drug stores, specifically designed for repairing partials and dentures. My wife's literally split in half, on two occasions, and I repaired it on the road for about $6. If it's not repairable, shop hard for a new one. The wife is in the middle of having a new one built. It's pretty complex and it is being done by a dental outfit that isn't cheap in the least, but it's still going to run about $600 less than the figure you listed. Good luck.

Oh yes, I looked into that ... sadly mine broke in the metal part of the partial ... 8+(
Am looking at traveling to Los Algodones, but not sure about all the logistics.  I think mentally I was prepared for about $800 you know, but when the estimate came back at $1900+ I was stunned ... there's a low income place here that I think I can get it down to $1000 ... they told me to come on Tuesday of next week, so I'll do that.

Thanks tons for the good luck wishes!

I've heard it said that you can fix anything (except a broken heart) with a little JB Weld, now I'm beginning to believe it! Hope that works out for you. Good thoughts your way!

Guy
I love JB Weld!  It does work on most things. I did it today after the original post, it seemed to hold until I bit down and now have a really nasty taste in my mouth! Chuckle.  Sooo, I guess a broken heart AND partials would be the exception to the miraculous JB Weld!

A saying I love is "living with one foot in the past, and one foot in the future--pissing all over today."

Today, this present moment is all that's real, yesterday is gone and tomorrow is an illusion. Of course you always have an eye on the future but today is what's important and today can always be a good day--you just have to chose to make it good.

Deal with the moment in the best way you can, your discouragement comes when you think about the future, so minimize thinking about it!! Look for the best for today, and you can find it!

One foot in front of the other; if you take care of the moments, the years will take care of themselves.
Bob

I'm having a time, myself, these days. Just keep on trucking!!!

Hey Bob, I usually try to stay in the moment and when discouraged I'm sorta in that moment of discouragement, chuckle.  I have to plan somewhat so I can achieve my goal, so while I have my feet totally in the present, I have to keep an eye on the future goal.

Thanks for the words of wisdom, I completely agree with you.

May I suggest a jewelry repair shop. Dental work shares many techniques with jewelry. If you don't know anyone ask any pawn shop or antique store for a recommendation of where they have there work done.

Guy
Hey Guy, that's just too funny, really, as my ex is a goldsmith and had all the tools of the trade at the house! Wonder if he'd help me? Chuckle ... probably not,

Sorry you have going through stuff too.  We just plod along and sometimes we hit a proverbial speed bump or pot hole, only option is keep on trucking and that's what I plan to do.  So what if I miss my goal of 1.5 yrs out, I'll just leave when I leave.

If you have a current prescription, you can get glasses at zennioptical.com for less than $50.
I'm sure there are other online providers out there, but I know a few people who have used Zenni and have been very happy with them.

I tried JB welding my wire frame glasses and it didn't work at all. Not enough surface area. Thicker frames like what you see in plastic frames would probably work much better as long as the cleaved part isn't smooth. The surface needs to be rough for the JB Weld to adhere to.

Dental is just off the charts in this country. The wife's dental situation has been a barely controlled disaster for years. We finally found a competent dentist, and she needs a ton of work, including an upper denture for the first time, and a replacement for a lower partial that lasted less than three years. We have dental coverage that the dental staff describes as excellent, and far better than most. Even with that, we will have almost $3000 in copays, charges in excess of allowable amounts, and payments for work that isn't covered.

Best part was when we told the dentist about the campground we are staying at. He became quite animated and said that he nearly bought the place a few years back, as an investment. We know that it sold for two million bucks. Must be nice to have that kind of income.

Some states--Arizona is one--permit "dentureists". They are fully licensed dentists who do NOTHING but dentures, and the cost and time involved is (was-when I got mine) a lot less.

. Depending on the amount of damage, denturists may also be able to fix fractured or broken dentures.
google "denturists near me" for info

I wish you the best. If you want it badly enough, you'll get at least close to what you ultimately desire. That's closer than you are now. Nose forward. Straight.
