Combination campgrounds and boondocking. I prefer boondocking as it free's up money for beer, but I also hate dealing with poo and related messiness.(no blackwater tank). So if the camping is cheap and privatish, prob that. Out west though, boondocking is my preferred method(not much experience with that yet though, only was there about 4-5 months before we headed back to Iowa)

EDIT: Sweet Hummer you environmental hatin' b4stard! And I'm totally not saying that because of jealousy!

Boondocking is my preferred camping. Somewhere where I can relax, with zero stress, where my poorly behaved dogs can run off leash, somewhere where my mind settles down.

Tent camping...I prefer backpacking in to remote areas

Truck and RV camping I prefer boondocking. I've only paid for a site once and it was okay...toilets and garbage. I don't use my black tank so still have to deal with the waste issue either by getting out first thing in the morning and finding a bathroom or by digging a hole.

On the whole I created my set-up to be as self-sufficient as I can be for at least two weeks (if I conserve water)

We prefer boondocking or little free campgrounds. If either of those isn't available then public campgrounds or if we're in a city, casino and big box store lots.
Boondocking works great in the west. It takes some searching in the east but it's still possible many places.

I'm urban. Walmarts and Cracker Barrel mostly. My interests are museums, zoos, and historical sites, so I travel from city to city, staying in each long enough to see all the sites before moving on to the next.

That makes me somewhat of a rarity here. ;)

I've done it all but my favorite is extreme remote boondocking.

I am with Jim on this one. it's been many years since I have been in a campground. highdesertranger

I'm loving BC - Recreation sites that are better laid out than a lot of state/provincial parks but don't have all the facilities! They come with a picnic table, fire ring and usually vault toilets...no garbage cans, no showers, no power! They also don't have the price - most I've paid as a senior is $7.50 a night and most of the time I can find free ones.

I'm getting just a little bit spoiled.... :D

In AZ/CA I boondock but usually on the banks of the Colorado or on some of the free BLM or NF lands. Some of my favorites tend to get a little crowded in January/February but then thin out at other times.

When I'm travelling I search out campsites on Freecampsites.net or just hit a W/M or casino for the night.

I mainly reside in a small, one bedroom condo, but when I'm on the road I use a mix of all three, though I'm not convinced that "stealth" is anything more than a figment of the imagination. A few times a year, I'll setup camp at work when I have late nights followed by early mornings.

I'm not a camper, and likely never will be. Only went camping twice in my life, didn't learn anything and didn't enjoy it. I'm still in the research and learning stage, so I'm not a nomad yet. Right now I am totally broke so it will be a long while before I'm ready to buy a vehicle and start traveling, but I love how Lenny Flank has made vandwelling work for his interests. I'll be visiting small towns and cities, too, and will probably only try a campground if it's the only option somewhere.
