Can anyone tell me what "Research" means at the free camping website?  I am looking for free camping.

It means they need someone to stop in and see what's up. Like verify its free or whatever. Does it have a water spout? Dump station? Toilets? Fire rings? Picnic tables? That kinda stuff. At least that's my take from freecampsites.net

Sorry, just answered your question on the other thread...my bad...serious thread drift over there.

Here's the reply:

Ahh, do you mean the campsites marked in yellow?

Those are locations that someone has sent in as a listing but are unconfirmed.

For example, one I just looked at says this:

"Reported as signed "No Tresspassing". The Boarded up Motel is located along Trans Canada Highway 17. It is just a bit South of the turnoff to the town of Wawa on highway highway 101" etc. etc. Goes on to say that it's still okay which I question.

I only plan on using them if I have absolutely no where else to go within the days drive....If you do use one, please, please file your report.

Actually, file your report no matter what when you use one of the campsites that are listed.

For example I've checked out some of the campsites that had bad reports and only one I agreed with, some of the posters are a might critical of a free campsite...

so a second or third opinion is always welcome.

I think it means that there is a campsite there, but hasn't gotten a review, so you'll have to research it further elsewhere - that's what I've always taken it to mean anyway.

According to free campsites' app, "This information may be (and often is) wildly innacurate. It is provided as a means to help locate new camp sites that have not yet been reported on the site.

Be aware that the information presented here is more likely to contain errors than normal. We do not know that the sites listed here should be listed on the primary view as the prices have not been determined. Many of these sites will have fees associated with them that exceed our normal limits.

If you research one of these sites, please use the edit interface to help us fill in the gaps in our data. If the site is too expensive to be listed here, it will be removed. If it falls within our guidelines, it will be moved to the main view and you will be listed as the contributor."
