South Cove County park is looking for camp host for this summer. We are surrounded by the beautiful Lake Keowee.

National Geographic name the area as one of the top 50 destinations of a lifetime in the world. Great views of the Blue Ridge Mountains also.

Located 2 hrs from Atlanta, 2 hrs from Charlotte and 1.5 hrs from Asheville.

The positions are for twenty hours of work a week in trade for the site and includes electric and water and dump station on site.

The commitment  lasts at least through the busy season. Need more info please don't hesitate to email Stephen Schutt - [email protected].

Lets do the math.20 hrs per week x minimum wage comes to more than $600.00 per month.Pretty expensive for free parking.

Moneywise sure, but there are other benefits. Including, some experience if you don't have this on your resume, making contacts\friends, and instead of putzing around all day with nothing to do, having lil projects to work on. I hear you on the money part, just wanted to point out why it might be good for some people.

But that is typical for "work kamping". Actually the required hours are pretty low. Most work kamping positions that I have seen are looking for 35 hours and up or 20+ hrs per person for a couple. South Cove is a very busy park. I personally prefer High Falls. And since they acquired Chau Ram State Park (now no longer a state park), I would stick Chau Ram above High Falls. South Cove is the most popular park since it is closest to Seneca.

BTW, lived and/or worked in the Oconee/Pickens County area from between 1985 - 1995.

To work kamp, you typically need a second income to cover expenses other than site rent.

Not so bad for organized full service campground on the East Coast.

Camping fees at that park range from $25 to $60 per night with no monthly fee available that I can see.

Amazing to me that so many people are willing to work for no pay.Maybe this mentality explains why so many people in this country are in debt and living from one crises to the next.Or maybe some people know their worth.

It should be kept in mind that the vast majority of people who take workamping jobs are not looking to make a living wage. They're people who are on limited income who want to be able to reduce their living expenses by living rent free in exchange for a limited number of hours of usually easy work in an outdoor environment with no commuting costs. They're mostly full-timers who would be paying for a campsite otherwise.

Ouch! Don't confuse getting paid paper for getting paid with services and goods. Just because you don't get a check at the end of the month does not mean you are not getting paid. Working for 20 hours a week for cash means little when you have to pay rent, hookups, showers, laundry, fuel to and from work, etc. factor in the taxes on that wage and it might just be a better deal to take the goods and services. Just a thought.. Self worth really has 'zero' to do with it.

I may be blind, but I just don't see the logic.I can camp on National Forest or BLM for free and not have to work for nothing.

Not on the east coast you cant

Well, since I am not required to be on the east coast, this doesn't really apply to me.Even slaves in the old south were given room and board.

But they are not working for "nothing", some other benefits have already been discussed, and I am sure there are more. On a side-note, how do you feel about volunteer work?

It's a good thing we all get to live our life the way we want, and not according to someone else's logic(for the most part).

I guess I just feel sorry for people who allow themselves to be exploited. This has been a good discussion but I think I'll leave it here. Some say the glass is half full. Some say the glass is half empty.I say it's time for someone to buy the next round.

Correct! It does not apply to you. A good deal is only a good deal if it is good for both parties. If both are happy, who are you to complain about? Especially if you are not on the east coast so you are unfamiliar with the cost it requires to be on the east coast. And making comparisons to "slaves in the old south' is, at best, offensive to say the very least.

Talk about being exploited! Maybe you shouldn't be trying to exploit someone for your next drink and buy it yourself!

Well,......It was a joke.Sorry you missed it.

I didn't miss it. There was absolutely nothing you posted that was even remotely funny.

Being on east coast, this sounds like a great starting point for someone like me to cut teeth on, but just a little too early for me to do it, If I was ready to hit it, I would surely do it or try to get it and establish a resume for future positions since not too far from home for a trial run before I explore the west where I want to be most of time. The value in an opportunity is in the eyes of the seeker.  are we not all seeking something?

Great point! Having the experience and a resume' that reflects it is a great way to open up doors to better jobs. Training somebody to do a job they have never done can be a turn off for employers looking for turn key employees.
