Welcome to the CRVL forums Kc2stpr! The van build was sponsored by Jamie of Enigmatic Nomadics. He is now living in the east so van builds may be a thing of the past, however, come west in January for the Rubber Tramp Rendevous. There will be one in 2022. We're just now sure what form it will take yet.

To help you learn the ins and outs of these forums, this "Tips, Tricks and Rules" post lists some helpful information to get you started.

Most of our rules boil down to two simple over-riding principles: 1) What you post should provide good information (like your introductory post), and 2) Any response to someone else's post should make them feel glad they are part of this forum community.

We look forward to hearing more from you.

Hi Larry,
You can travel as much or as little as you want, which should help your anxiety about going to new places, and as you do that you'll be less and less stressed about it.
Welcome to the forum...this is a great place.

Just start going camping right now with the vehicle and stuff you already have.

Remember, all you really NEED to go camping is a comfortable way to sleep. I spent many years taking just four food items with me on weekend camping trips - french bread, apples, salami, and cheese.

Wherever you live, there's a county or state campground near you. And don't forget, there's no law against camping in your own driveway or back yard, or a friend's driveway or back yard. These baby steps give you a very good idea what YOU need to be comfortable on a more ambitious trip. Knowing you'll be physically comfortable is a huge step forward.

There are van builds sponsored by various people in various places most years.

But do watch some of the van build videos from the last two years on the cheap rv living youtube channel so that you understand about the HOWA non profit organization's van builds. You will see that they are now very different that what you are wanting for yourself. It is not a bring your own vehicle situation. But you will get some good ideas from the videos for fitting out your SUV.

Hi Larry, I'm Tom and will be starting this year myself. In Boise but many of my early Scouting years were spent in Osceola, grew up in LSMO. Was at the 2019 Van Build and thinking on being in same Parker area this year the 2 weeks before Thanksgiving. More than happy to start out with you. My Van is already built and looking for fellow newbies to get started with. Be back in the MO area soon, could meet up then, let me know.
