My spin-out in California did minor damage to my trailer but put a heck of a dent and crease into the drivers side rear of my truck. Regular body shop estimate was a low of $2100 to a high of $3000, this on a truck with a KBB value of $3500.

I called a guy off of Craigslist who worked in a body shop but did minor repairs on the side, even came to my apartment. I told him I just wanted it "presentable" not perfect. So for a whopping $150 he pulled the dents out and most of the crease and painted it.

Judge for yourself.

Personally I think you got your money's worth. Looks presentable to me...especially at that price.

I sort of liked the dent. Now you will not be able to bluff people when you pull out in front of them. Nothing better than knowing that new BMW is not gonna chance running into an old war scared beater truck.

I saw the dent in person. you did well for $150 Rob.

John 61, I gave him an extra 20. He was a nice guy and worked hard.

Hang on to his number!! ;)

Even if you never need it, keep it for when one of us does.

For the past 7 years I had a fellow in Ontario that worked out of his own shop in his backyard. Sometimes I had to book 6 weeks in advance but it was always worth the weight. He liked doing frame off restorations but knew that the occasional deer/moose/bear repair job kept his wife in shopping money... :D

That's a pretty sweet deal, Rob. Your truck is looking quite decent.

Those guys are out there; I've been using them for years.  There are mechanics out there that do good work at home too.  How's the trailer coming along?

Yessir there are good workers just trying to get a bit of cash to get over the hump. This was a young man with a new family and he hustled to support them. Honorable.

Trailer is a work in progress, but the truck is ready anyway.
