Just curious if anyone has or is using one of the biolite products.

This item calls for my inner Jeremiah.

  <<<biolite campstove video.

I remember someone at the RTR I believe was charging their phone and got distracted they said for a second and some thing happened like the stove got knocked over and caught their phone on fire. no it wasn't covered under warranty.

just remember those types of stoves are not legal during burn bans. which is this time of year and encompasses most of the west.

Nothing could be further away from any Jeremiah-ing!
Too complicated of a contraption that offers too little in terms of benefits, and a laundry list of rules.

When was the last time you lit a fire to cook that was not in your kitchen?

A solar panel is a better way to charge things. You could get  one or two of the small battery banks as a backup and keep them topped up on solar and/or charge them while driving.

As far as a Rocket stove goes there are less expensive and better performing ones. Also. Lots of plans for a DIY rocket stove.

There was a time when I too craved a Biolite stove but I got over it.  Cravings for new toys cvome and go. this too shall pass. The mantra to help move past those feelings is  "Want versus need? "  make saying that phrase a habit if you want to live a van life where you have no space to store stuff thzat is non essential to daily use. As stated you won't  be able to use a Biolite stove more than half of the year due to burn bans.AAlso a woodfired cookstove makes a sooty mess on the exterior of pots and pans. That then means having to do a lot of extra cleanup and having to store that cookware away from other items. It was not too hard too talk myself out of my craving for that product because of the sooty mess as I don't like cleaning chores especially where water is not plentiful.

Great points everyone.

I did see a review and the people were not happy with the sooty pans. That is the last thing I want in an all white interior van.

I completely forgot about the burn bans as well. That is a huge consideration.

I was thinking that this would be more of a nuisance than benefit outside of the most dire of situations. I guess it does come off rather gimmicky.

I keep thinking I have the spirit of Jeremiah.. but putting that in practice would probably lead me to be the scrawny scroungy guy in a pine limb leanto up around Lake Pend Orielle.....with my cell phone charging with fire..LOL.. and NO signal!

Thanks for the foresight yall!

How, pray tell, did 1000 generations of fire builders ever get by without a $200 USB powered fire builder? But good to see yer channeling yer inner bullfrog.

In the most dire of situations, you have to be prepared to gather some sticks, and pull a Bic lighter out of your pocket.
Life is simple.
