Very cool!<br>I wish they would give more info on how they create the power. Is it the heat spinning the internal dynamo? <br>Bri<br><br>

The stove tech has been around for many many years... The gadget charger is just that a gadget... just plug the phone in the car lighter, and build the stove out of a coffee can, instructions on You-Tube...<br>

<div><br></div><div><span style="font-family: Georgia; color: rgb(153, 0, 0);">Gadgets are soooo tempting to me at times. &nbsp; But SR, you are correct. &nbsp;I have already made hobo stoves, have several versions of camp stoves and generators, inverters and solar phone chargers already. &nbsp;I just *must* get out of the "AHA Cool" mode sometimes. &nbsp; Thanks for the pragmatism &nbsp;<img src="/images/boards/smilies/smile.gif" border="0" align="absmiddle"></span></div><div><span style="font-family: Georgia; color: rgb(153, 0, 0);"><br></span></div><div><span style="font-family: Georgia; color: rgb(153, 0, 0);">~SE</span></div>

pragmatism aside, i think they're selling them now.<div><br></div><div>the charger is 4 watt max. but unlike solar, works at night.</div><div>i think it's cool. not sure how 'green' it is as you are actually burning something but until they become popular, a ranger won't know it's not propane.</div><div>great for backpacking.</div>

Interesting idea. Not sure I'd buy one though. It's a me thing in that I like to disconnect from anything electronic when I disco from society. Although having been to third world countries I do see how the HomeStove they make will be of use. I mean providing the people there have USB connectable devices.&nbsp;<div><br></div>

actually, sl, any country that didn't have fone lines by the 1990's never will.&nbsp;<div>that's what they said then anyhoo.</div><div><br></div><div>and i might like to disconnect myself, but not totally. i'm planning a short backpacking trip and purchased a little eton. something about not being able to call a ranger if a copperhead or timber rattler get's me or a pooch scares the hell outta me.</div>

I agree about not totally disconnecting. I've been in two emergencies where help had to be called. Once we were well out of cell phone range and the cb radio is what saved us. The second time we were in range and just turned on the phone to call.&nbsp;<div><br></div><div>the eton is cool though. i don't know if it'll fit my needs yet. i'm on the fence about getting a john's phone for when i start full timing.</div><div><br></div>

(yup i see it's an older thread...but hey, i'm new around here!) <br>looks like an interesting stove/charger...and like many above i too am tempted by the coolness of it. Though with all the amps in my battery bank it would be a redundant charging source. I do like the look of the homestove version as i would be using such while vehicle camping so the weight is not a factor. But to be able to put an 8 or 10" ceramic skillet on the home version would be a draw for me (and my wife).<br><br>On the disconnect... the places my wife and i go there are no cell towers ,( I am a licensed HAM operator and have the radio gear but it is so archaic in its rules and regs i really don't use it these days. We bring along our tablet for entertainment and mapping software so we still have some gadgetry along.
