Hey all!

I was wondering if anyone else here has shoehorned bicycles into their conversion van. I have a pretty solid strategy in my mind as to how I might get two in but figured it would be worth seeing what other people have done. One little idea can be a game changer sometimes!

Cheers,
Tom

I tried having one inside and it quickly became a big pain.
Lots of racks made to hang on the trunk of a car will work on the hood of a van.

I'm going to have a half decent road bike and a downhill mountain bike which will be stolen in an instant if left outside. Plus I maintain bikes meticulously so a single speck of rust could be my downfall :D

Basically I'm willing to lose space / convenience to the bikes because riding is more or less my main hobby.

a small enclosed trailer?

I traveled across country with a $250 mountain bike on the back of my jeep and people tried to steal it twice! Both times the straps holding it on the rack were removed, (don't think they noticed the cable lock until after they tried removing the straps), so anyone with bikes of real value, I can totally understand why you would only travel with them inside the van, let alone the weather damage they'll incur even if no one tries stealing it.

Somewhere I saw a fellow who had designed a cabinet with a sliding drawer to house two bicycles (wheels removed). From the interior the cabinet was closed and made the basis for a bench seat. With the back doors open the drawer would slide out for unloading bicycles. It was very compact and elegant.

I think it was a Sprinter. Probably a YouTube video. I don't have the link though.

Luis, over on the Rolling Earth-Ship YouTube channel, stores his bike in the back of a Chevrolet 2500 cargo van. He recently remodeled the back and was still able to store his bike in the back. Over on the Enigmatic Nomadics YouTube channel, Bob interviewed a guy living in a Toyota Prius and he had a foldup bike stored in the back of the small vehicle. The video was done fairly recently, so you shouldn't have to search very long for it.

I keep my bike in my Ford Transit Connect while driving, then outside at night when my bed is open. It fits across right behind the front seats, turn the front tire sideways & that sits in the lower step where you enter the van door. Works really well for me.
