its funny to see how society expects people to be socialized. yet interactions show a history of transient behavior being the normal reaction. transient meaning "you are leaving, why should i try to make a new friend".

have been in a new town for a year. 1000 miles from previous life style. cost of living is better. natural environment (the great outdoors) is interesting.

but people are difficult to be friends with. most are slow to reach out. slow to maintain contact. slow or inconsistant with socializing. like they expect you to not be around.

am pleased when i find friendships that last years. wish there were better examples in this online communitee. or just in general with the CHEAP MOBILE LIVING communities.

Alvin Toffler made exactly this point in his somewhat turgid book "The passionless people". Not a bad read if you can wade throught it, particularly since the future(s) he predicted are, to a certain extent, here. He made much of the increasingly impermanent life style lead by an ever increasing segment of society brought on by job loss or restructure, cost of living and length of time in which people voluntarily keep their jobs. Put simply, the more you travel, the less you make long term relationships. Given the nature of this site, the irony is not lost on me.

I'd be hugely interested to know the percentage of people in the U.S that lead a non-stick and brick (and thus fundamentally transient) lifestyle. It's no bet that the number increases every year.

Thanks for response. It is passionless people. The young still have passion inherent with youth. But the older folks have no passion to invest in relationship when we are forced transient. Maybe that's what happens to politicians who go to far away national office. No passion about issues.

Definitely can't get new folks to engage in a new friendship.
