Battery voltage at store, date

i searched but cant find where we mentioned this. i went to walmart and all the dc/marine batteries there have a date sticker claiming 1 month old. I checked the voltage and all but one were 12.3, and the exception was 12.5 (not one i wanted) Should batteries be that low after a month? Do you think they are safe to buy?
