Pondering about "the spot" in Az. that would be the weather friendly-est year round. on my many Az. trips I realize they have all been one to two months not really long enough to get a feel for the total year.

I think I'd choose Prescott if I wanted to be near a city. It has a true four seasons but they aren't extreme.

If I wanted to be remote I'd go over toward St Johns or Show Low.

2X on Prescott. or Payson area. You will get some snow and some warm summer days, but no extremes on either end. Payson is near the rim, which gives you nice cool summer lakes to kayak and fish in... Lots of dispersed camping too.

there is an "rv park" in Strawberry which is really just a row of spaces, but seems to be occupied by full timers. We looked at storing our trailer there in the summer.

3X on Prescott or even Cottonwood. I haven't explored a lot but you need higher elevation but not Show Low or Flag height, they get hard winters. Cottonwood gets hot but it's doable. Prescott isn't cheap but it has a lot of urban conveniences. I'm sorry I cannot help you with rv parks as I urban park.

Anybody have any idea as to how Willcox, AZ would be for year round living ? Summers/winters, ON PAPER, appear to be mild (?)
I read somewhere that if you buy 4+ acres you can exempt yourself from building codes/zoning restrictions ???

Wilcox is way east of Tucson off I10. It's a small town, less than 4,000. Mostly agricultural. You'll be a long way from much of anything city wise. Weather is hot in July, daily between 101 and 110 all month.
Go to tripadvisor for things to do and other reviews.
I'd think you'd get tired of the place but who knows. As far as cheap land, Google a realty company. Winters are pleasant.

Thanks Dusty, the summers were what I was interested in. I saw some weather sites that showed it much cooler (?) Have you ever been there in July ? I thought the altitude would keep it a bit more moderate. How's Bisbee in the summer ? My problem with Prescott and further North is even though the summers are moderate the land prices are so high.

Just ended a 9 day trip though Arizona from Flagstaff to Phoenix and back I-10 to Cali.

Lots of positives about AZ, cheap gas, higher speeds on the freeways, lots of free parking at commercial centers.

A few negatives as well. The bugs in the Coconino National Forrest were horrific at best, and it was HOT.

I just can't see myself spending a year under those conditions. I did like Flagstaff, but I hear the winters are severe.

Hi back. While Willcox is about 4000 it's still hot. Remember it's desert. 2014 was quite warm, above averages. Here's averages:

Sorry about the clumsy cut and paste but as you can see the average high temp in both June and July is 96. Remember average is average, you'll see over 100 too.

Bisbee is over 1000 feet higher (5500) and about 1,000 more people. Here's their climates:

Thus Bisbee would be the more pleasant of the two, as well as closer to Tucson...

Bisbee was a mining center, still has some, lots of history. Back in 2000 AARP voted it a best place to retire too. I'd pick B over W as a place to be. You could summer there comfortably. Remember the best your van will do barring a strong breeze and shade is outside ambient temperature...

thank you all for chiming in being retired and still working pumping up my bank accounts is wearing me out. I will be spending a month or so exploring around Prescott and other suggested locations.

Bisbee is pretty sewn-up as far as space. It's a mining town in the mountains and what land is not owned by the mining comp is going for high prices. It's much easier to find land on either side of the mules (the mountains Bis is in) in the valleys. Parked up in that area for about 10 years, mostly of the east side in the Sulfur Springs Valley, but some on the west.

Also have friends in Ash Fork (north of Prescott) that deal in realistate in this area.

Wagoneer, when are you thinking of heading this way? I may still be around.
