An amazing app for boondockers

Please describe more fully the content of the YouTube video for those who don't/won't use YouTube.

I'm leaving this up for the  next few hours for you to add the description, otherwise it will be taken down.

Covers everything from campsites to cell reception, agency boundaries, population pressure etc. Many aspects of concerns one might have about unknowns in boondocking. If I could describe it all I wouldn't have posted a YT. Pull it if you need to.

Is the name of the app a secret? That would be a big help, I'm on a data plan, please understand.

Thank RVTravel, will check it out!

At first I thought this was clickbait...  seemed really odd the app wasn't called out by name.  Someone else posted the name FreeRoam so I went to the website and it looks like a young couple doing their thing to earn some side money (Amazon affiliate, adds in the app).  Google store has it listed as FreeRoam Boondocking.  It appears to be Android only (no IOS app).  Marginal user reviews, but what did impress me were a good number of sites listed in the western states (not so much mid-west).  Seems like the website might be usable online for trip planning.

I, as a number of us here, have very limited data bandwidth.  I cannot afford to look at a YT video who's relevance to me is unknown, hence the request to describe what is in it.

Browsed the app https://freeroam.app/ on a computer.

Looks worthy, added into my campsites bookmark folder.

If you are heading somewhere with no cell signal, plan your next step while you still have signal.

Hi everyone, I'm the one programming the app/website. The YouTube video is a bit outdated now (a lot of the layout has changed) so I'll try to make a new one soon.

It's setup as a non-profit with a goal of educating people how to live off the land in a sustainable way and using the revenue it generate to help cleanup for the inevitable people that don't follow the rules. Eg. it'd be great to get more convenient places to dump trash and recycle, direct more funds to get folks picking up trash, etc...

My fiancee and I have only been working on it since ~August so there's still a lot to be done. Feel free to reach out with any suggestions for the app or issues you run into: [email protected]

Here's an updated video:

For those with limited data plans who don't want to watch the video, the main things that are probably helpful for you are:

- Map overlays (icon at top right in app) for BLM, USFS, cell coverage (Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint). I think the only other ways to get these on mobile are in apps that aren't free
- Campgrounds show by default, but you can also show overnight locations (Walmart, Rest Area, etc...), low clearance locations, and facilities (dump stations, groceries, etc...) by tapping on the search bar at the top of the app
- Offline mode (open the navigation menu with the icon at the top left, then go to "Offline Mode"). You can enable that, record any data you want to record (zoom in on different places, etc...) and it'll save it locally to your phone or computer, whichever you're on

Welcome to the CRVL forums! To help you learn the ins and outs of these forums, this "Tips, Tricks and Rules" post lists some helpful information to get you started. We look forward to hearing more from you.

As per the link above, I have removed all the links in your first 2 posts.

Nice app, keeping it simple with well thought out information, overlays and the offline mode work very well.
Wish you had more info for the midwest/east, maybe in future updates.

I like it! I would like it better if I could see where I am on the map in relation to the sites. But I will use it!

@Cammalu you should be able to by pressing the crosshair button at the bottom left

@Matlock I'll try to get more added. So far I've been pulling public campgrounds, BLM, USFS, etc... But unfortunately with those there aren't a ton of free ones out east. The past couple of days I've been working on adding paid public campgrounds with a filter to search for cheap ones.

It would be nice if the paid ones were different on the map too.

Can you elaborate? Visually they're different (green instead of orange) and you can filter them out with the "Price" filter (just set it to 0)
