To follow up on my exploits, have been living in my Astro van for over two weeks now. I am employed full time and could live in a stationary home but I choose not to.

That said, I have gone back and forth on bedding. I have am air mattress. Been using it but its been very cold in Kentucky, thus cold air mattress. Bought and egg crate from wallie world and placed on top. No more cold even thought the low last night was 6. Think I am gonna stay with this arrangement until I have the time to build a proper bed.

An air mattress is a lot like an unheated waterbed in cold weather; unless you have enough insulation between your body and the mattress, it sucks the heat right out of you.

Glad to hear that the egg crate pad is working, as it will give you more time to plan the bed you really want. :D

Could you put a sheet of foam board under the mattress? Maybe that would help and later use it in your build.

I saw at Costco for $150 (or $100 can't remember).....a folding bed that's a little bigger than a cot with a very sturdy looking metal frame and memory foam mattress. It folds into 3rds. 2/3 and it's a bench. 1/3 it's a small seat, coffee table or ottoman. Sold out really quick. The memory foam is worth it right there.

I once used a foam type of cushion to place on top of a rear bench bed seat. Got it from Costco. Was rather comfy from my recollection.
Nowadays, I use an iComfort memory foam mattress on top of a platform bedframe with headboard. I love memory foam, even my pillows are all memory foam.

And in hot muggy weather they're pretty miserable because they don't breathe. Mmmmm, sweat on plastic with just a sheet between. Lovely.

I've been very comfortable on a futon mattress. Of course there's tons of brands, my current van has a queen 8" thick. (eBay made in USA). Sleep like a baby! Lol

Air mattress with an egg crate has been working in the interim. I will most certainly build a proper bed in the next week or two. I plan to use the air mattress on top of the platform until I can locate and purchase a suitable replacement.

Thanks again for all of the feedback and suggestions. Truly appreciate having access to this site and these wonderful people.
