So I put up an advertisement on Craig's list WANTED PARKING SPOT, and will also look at the spots being advertised to see if they would be okay with me sleeping in the van.

Mentioned that $5 a day is my limit. Will see if anyone responds. Have to check the section I posted to and make sure it will get seen.

Maybe advertise in grocery or laundry bulletin boards? Right now it's just to see if I would get offers.

Might respond to parking spot advertisers and ask if the know anyone that would rent a spot overnight. Knowing a person is sleeping in the van. Figure why not ask.

I did exactly that and got a few offers in Denver and the San Diego Area. In Denver I found a spot in the city a bit off the beaten path, but still near a light-rail station, bike path, grocery store and a few bars/restaurants. It was a great spot because I was completely isolated from foot and motor traffic. The other offer was a spot ten feet from a major street, where I would be in plain view from passers by.

In San Diego (which I never made it to) I had offers to park in some guy's apartment complex lot (felt pretty exposed), someone's remote country house a few miles from town, and a used RV dealership/junk yard in town.

In all cases I offered $300/mo and that seemed fine. The guy in Denver even offered me work to reduce my rent to $200/mo. I delivered magazines and ran errands for him.

Concretebox - thank you for confirming I am not crazy with this plan.

Though I may need to up my budget to $300 like you did.

Concretebox - did you advertise in the PARKING section or in the RESIDENCE WANTED section. Or both?

Depending upon the size of city you are near I would suggest contacting some rural focused Realtors as well as putting up a few flyers in places farmers gather. Auto parts stores, cafes, grain elevators, etc.

I would also suggest an ad in the "green sheets" or farmers forum or whatever it is where you are.

I'm a fan of farmers. I can usually trust them.

I have had good luck placing ads on Craigs for parking space. Here's a vid I did on one experience...

I place an ad in "parking/storage" and in "rooms shared". Often college students are looking for a few extra bucks, so a student hall would be good too.

I don't say how much I'm willing to pay, only that I am able to pay a reasonable amount and I figure for a van $5/night is plenty, especially if I'm not tapping electric, etc. I've paid $200-250/mo for full hookups with the RV, so I won't give more with a van. I discuss money after I see what's offered. If you're going to run A/C in summer or electric heat in the winter, you may have to pony up a few extra bucks. An A/C unit can add as much as 3-4 bucks a day to your host's bill...in which case, I'd offer $8/night for van parking.
I think $300 is a bit stiff unless showers are included in the deal ;)

I posted in the housing wanted section with the headline "can I park my tiny rv on your property? "

$300 is pretty cheep but honestly I think I should get away with less. The way I see it, it's $300 bucks they wouldn't have otherwise and it's not like they have to deal with the hassle of with a roommate.

Just outstanding ideas. This is what should be promoted on this site for traveling folks. Why deal with stealth boondock parking issues.

I started a thread on the subject a while back and it didn't draw much interest.
There are lots of RV camps that go for $300 with full hookups, showers, wifi, and laundry...especially in the southwest. $350 will also get you a pool in many of them.
We paid $200, sans the pool, in Quartzsite last winter with the RV.
We have to be in Tucson for medical part of this coming winter, so we've arranged to use the place in the above video @ $200/mo again.

IMO, $300 is a bit tall for van parking.

If it's in a private sheltered driveway or yard section near the heart of a gorgeous city center. Than $300 for a month would be outstanding.

If that is more what you are after my very best suggestion would be to go to reddit.com and make an account and start browsing and sharing. The better part of the site is misguided rubbish but there are some gems there and the people as a whole seem "good" at heart. There are many regional forums you can find by searching for a city.

When you have some credibility and people feel you have been open and honest and aren't a serial murderist you can post an ad in one of the many many subreddits that is suitable to your cause. (Reddit.com/r/denver) will get you the denver one.

The people are young and hip and into tinyhouses, off grid cabins, homesteads, etc. Search for each of these and see what you see. One thing leads to another and you get a garden spot in a city center with some hipsters who like u2.

I live on the Virginia/North Carolina border in a lake town (John Kerr Reservoir 850 mile shoreline) and have a nice in town property that has accommodated a full-time RVer in the past...Class B...nice big patio, electricity, walking distance to grocery and less than 1 mile to town....I need some income and would like to do this again....let someone with a small RV do this...any ideas on where to advertise (Craig to start) and how much to charge. Perfect for retiree...fisherman (many fishing tournaments held here)...was thinking of $160 a month including big patio use, electricity...some house use...any ideas??

You can list it on AIRBNB just make sure you are clear that it is a parking spot for RV long term use. Think you can list it there.

I was just gonna suggest AIRBNB myself. They have a good following.

If it's a nice spot, you may even be able to get a bit more, but that does sound like a fair price.
