What is a good AA and D battery charger that is relatively inexpensive? 12 volt is preffered that can either be used with solar or 12 volt battery system.
Go to BatteryJunction.com they have all you need there. I have a universal battery charger AAA, AA, C, D and 9 volt. It performs well, under $30 and have 8 batteries with holding cases for each. The whole shebang takes up less room then five pound box of nails.
The Tenergy. Plus I have two aaa/aa that I bought years ago with some batteries to try. In my truck a one hour drive charges up all my batteries. I have two cigarette power source, one has the 400 watt invertor and the other just a 12v link. I charge two systems off the invertor and one off the 12v and all my battery needs are met in an hour. I store them in plastic cases, and put the spent ones in a ziplock. As I need them I just charge in my runs with the truck running anyway. I don't charge off my solar but could.
I have a real nice multi meter tester, but I let the item I am powering test them for me. I know what I should get in hours, etc out of the power, if not than I look at the power source. My d's rare get used because the item is also solar powered. The AA (12) get charged and switched out as need and have some that are 5 years old maybe older.

Never really worried about testing a small battery.
