So I had a routine exam with my doctor recently, and we were talking about what I was going to do now that I'm retired.

It turns out that when HE retires, he wants to get an RV and tour the US (He and his wife are both from India).  His plan is to spend one month in each of the fifty states.

It actually sounds pretty cool, except I can't imagine what would keep you occupied for a month in places like Delaware or Rhode Island, and I'm SURE you would need more than a month to do justice to places like Alaska or Texas.

This has given me an idea.  What if we had a new sub-forum called THINGS TO SEE AND DO and in that sub-forum we had fifty threads - THINGS TO SEE AND DO IN TEXAS, THINGS TO SEE AND DO IN UTAH, etc.

Everybody who's seen or done something cool and interesting in that state could post about it, and when any of us went into a new area, we could review that thread to see what other people here were recommending.

I suppose we could do Canada, too, maybe even break it down by province . . .

Anyway, it's just an idea.

Regards
John

AVOID in ARIZONA: The VIEW hotel in Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park in Northern Arizona. We arrived there-after paying $20 entry-- about lunchtime, FOR lunch. Parking lot FULL, private vehicles and tour buses. Restaurant closed, not to be open until 5PM I think. First floor restrooms closed for cleaning. 2nd floor restrooms had a long line. I am still shaking my head at that restaurant closing time. Apparently those are standard "closed" times...We thought to do a drive through of the area, but the road was really rough. My van has to last several years, and after a few jarring yards, we decided to not drive it, so backed out. Lots of vehicles (including tour buses) entering as we were leaving.

In Tucson, I was disappointed at Tohono Chul botanical Gardens. Much closer to me in distance than the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum, I really hoped to enjoy it since I could get to it more often. I'll spend THAT time at either Tucson Botanical Gardens, the zoo, or Saguaro National Park East, instead. Of course the landscape is different, and there's no restaurant or museum at SNP, but there are beautiful views to enjoy in the others, too.
Tohono Chul IS a botanical Garden, and as such, may interest you.

I agree that it could be a valuable resource.  Perhaps a way could be found to embed an ap like Gas Buddy
or gas prices in the OP of it.

These ap's would allow members to search for the cheapest prices for regular, plus, and high test as well as diesel by entering the Zip Code where they are.  (this may already be elsewhere in the "Cheap RV Living site)
but it's just a thought.

I live where West Virginia, Ohio, and Kentucky come together so I could offer for my general area.

Great idea.
Things to see and do ,,,,with a sub section of warnings of things/places to avoid ?

Great idea, that would be very helpful. How do you see it? Would it be divided by sections for the large states?

On most forums that do the states thing, they have them grouped by region, Southwest, Southeast, Northeast, etc.....
Works out fairly well.

Works out fairly well.

But I live in the North part of the South Central

With the storms that are blasting through here lately...

I am wishing there was a way to send them West.  CA could use a few of what happened last night.

I don't know anything about bandwidth and forum stuff so don't know if it would be an issue to do it this way, but I think it would be great, if it were possible, to have it so that all 50 states had their own thread in the sub forum. Then people could title their posts by location/good or bad. So then we could plan to go to the cool places and avoid the not so great ones. It would be a time-saver for those looking for things in a specific state near a specific city or something.

That would be pretty awesome. Ive earmarked a couple things on various blogs but its so spread out i lose track :D

There doesn't seem to enough popular demand.  Looks like it ain' t happening.

Jesse.

There have been 490 views, but only half a dozen people have posted and said they think it's a good idea and they'd like to have it.  I really can't blame Bob for not jumping all over it with numbers like that.

This web forum seems to concentrate more on survival than tourism.

Nothing wrong with learning how to survive.  :D

Dear John,

(Don't worry; it's not a rejection letter, ;) )

A wise woman taught me decades ago that it's *always* the minority that gets the majority of everything done. Look at Bob, he's a minority of one, but whatever would we do without him?

Obviously, it's his decision, but have you thought to e-mail him? Perhaps he hasn't mulled this over yet.

Yeup, I believe in persistence - within the boundaries of propriety, of course.

Blessings,

Jesse.

Got Smart,

Survival is all very well, but the things of beauty in this world are what we survive for, no?

Jess.

I'd appreciate a list of good and bad and interesting places per State. I just didn't think we were taking a list :)
