Novatel 4620L  hotspot. When I use google maps and navigation on my android tablet, it goes in reverse.

It can pinpoint my location easily, but instead of keeping track of my location as I'm driving, it shows that I should be driving in opposite direction. Strange one. Any ideas? The hotspot provides NMEA data, and its like google maps has reversed it. Hard to explain, hoping someone has it happened to them and they have afix or a setting change.

Yes, it's happened multiple times in the last 2 months. I don't trust Google maps at all. It seems to get confused if you ask it more than once. Clear the apps on your device and start over. If you keep driving it eventually corrects itself. Good luck.

I get the same issue with smartphones that do have embedded GPS.

GPS over Wi-Fi has to be simulated NMEA data derived from cell towers locations. Works okay until it doesn't.

I have had a few occurrences of Maps misplacing my location at an intersection as being across the cross road, telling me to turn left, when left did not make sense. Turn left and in about 100-200 ft Maps then gives directions to turn around. That location was off by four traffic lanes and a middle neutral lane, two sidewalks and a few car lengths from the corner. That is quite a distance for error.

Maps has also been confused here at the RV park about which way I should turn to get on US95 NB.

4620L GPS over Wi-Fi is only supported for Windows and Mac.

Link to Verizon Knowledge Base article.

GPS over Wi-Fi - Verizon Jetpack® 4G LTE Mobile HotSpot - MiFi® 4620L

Notes:

The GPS over Wi-Fi setting allows the MiFi device to provide a GPS (NMEA) stream to a Windows or Mac computer.
This is only useful if running an app that is capable of utilizing a NMEA GPS stream (e.g., Microsoft Streets & Trips, etc.).
To utilize GPS over Wi-Fi, a driver must be installed on the computer.

The issue should be with the Android device and Maps.

Have seen this happen on my GARMIN gps. Seems to be the signals might get reflected off buildings causing the GPS to think directions are reversed. Never trust a gps. Refer to maps also.

Of note. You can buy a $30 gps hockey puck device that plugs into your laptop to provide gps signal for map applications. No internet needed.

I have a laptop(cheap HP one), just got it for Xmas. Think I have turned it on twice. One of those time to put some different ROMs on those $28 Fire Tablets from Target. The only other time it gets plugged in is to resize pics from my camera. One of the days I'll get a lil desk area in here for it to sit.

@Goshawk-name\link for that hockey puck? I could prob find it, but would I be looking at the one you're talking about. Thnx!
