SATIRE by Debit.Servus: Most National parks aren't even open yet and the hottest RV trend has been set for 2018. Trucking companies are filling seats as the best kept secret in the nomad world is blown open like a  anthill. New and Existing RVers are moving into OTR Semi-Tractors left, right and center as a way to have some of the upsides of RV life with none of the cost. Semidwelling, named after the vehicle of the truck driving RVer, is driven by the rising costs of conventional RVing and the frugal disdain for paying money to live on the road when it's possible to get paid money to live on the road as a company driver or owner operator.

Semidwelling isn't for everyone. For starters you need to have a Commercal Drivers License and be healthy enough as determined by a physical exam to semidwell. You them need to either become a company driver for an OTR trucking company with decent integrated sleepers or buy your own Semi and become an Owner Operator (O/O).

As a Semidwelling company driver, You give up your own schedule and agenda in favor of the trucking company's schedule and agenda. You will have to be ok with driving the truck 5-6 days a week upto 11 hours each day (running legally) to destinations you don't pick regardless of the weather.

For the hyper-frugal RVer who is all about cost, it can be totally worth it  when you factor in the paycheck, you can $AVE tens of thousands of dollars a year! Some semidwellers save upwards of $70,000 a year with the highest paying trucking companies. As a company driving semidweller, you have no truck expenses, you don't pay for the trucks maintenance, fuel, insurance, taxes & registration. Some trucking companies will even pay you when you stuck at the scales, loading docks & truck stops - what is a setback to a conventional truck driver is the best unscheduled perk as a  Semidweller!

As a semidwelling O/O, you are on your own schedule, choose how much and where you drive by choosing your own loads, and you are free to upgrade or customize your integrated sleeper to be just like a modern RV interior! Semidwelling O/Os OWN their Semi tractor RV, however won't save tens of thousands of dollars a year (unless you drive loads all the time), but O/O Semidwelling minimizes many of the disadvantages of Semidwelling as a company driver.

But since you're frugal you'll DIY as much of the truck upkeep as possible, install most if not all of your own upgrades, and handle everything of your Owner Op business yourself. You'll be your own boss, you have the freedom to haul loads just enough to pay your expenses & fund your lifestyle or haul more loads to pay for palliative end-of-life care and your chrome plated deathbed (seriously, just live for today already and not hyperstress over the price!)

Don't fall into the semidweller trap of spending thousands of dollars decking out your Semi, and pay retail for that perfect 120" sleeper box versus one that's used and good enough.

If your ego is big, you'll be able to one up your frugal friends and family with the creative synergy of living and working in the same rig, getting PAID MONEY as you drive places with smilin faces! You will have the coolest rig at RV gatherings with your own custom Semi tractor!

Trucking companies are screaming their head off for drivers, they are so desperate for drivers that a semidweller can treat Company Driving as a revolving door. Short on funds? Trucking companies will be fighting for you! Don't want to Semidwell all 4 seasons, no problem!
Want to have the freedom that comes with your Not For Hire mobile dwelling that's in your name? Semidwell seasonally! Want to never pay for RVing again (at the expense of your agenda, schedule & freedom of movement)? Sell the rig to Semidwell!

Semidwelling is THE RV trend of 2018! Is it for you?

:) With the right pictures this could be a recruiting brochure :)

You forgot the sign-on bonuses and tax advantage an O/O has. Very important to semidwelling. And then when you are too old to drive anymore you can lease your truck to the next generation of semidwellers and continue the paychecks. What a wonderful future with nothing but a win-win scenario. And now, since I drove for 14 years with 12 of them being in my very own truck, I have to pee from laughing so hard.....
