If this is inappropriate, feel free to remove.

Labor Day, one year ago, I quit ingesting Marijuana , tore up my MMJ card.

I've been alcohol-free for almost 12 years now.  But I've had an MMJ card for 2 or 3.

The great thing about this life-style, is I feel no desire to get high.  I had some trouble sleeping for a little while, but I'm over that.  (I was taking it for chronic back-pain and insomnia).

Now, I want to be clear.  This is not an anti-marijuana post.  It's legal here in Colorado, and I'm not opposed to people smoking... as long as they're not driving , or flying a plane I'm on!  Same as with alcohol.

Anyways, I feel pretty good about it, and what's relevant to this forum, is that it is a function of this
lifestyle, I believe.

So, thanks to Chief Bob for bringing this lifestyle to my attention; and the many great people I've interacted with , and the many I've met on the road since then.  Some have made it a really great experience, but there's enough of you that I'd be like someone accepting an Oscar, I'd love to call out specific names, but I'd leave somebody out.

Thanks,

Pat

NICE!  Keep up the healthy lifestyle and save that money for more positive purposes.  Congrats...

I read somewhere recently that the real key to happiness is eliminating as many decision making processes as possible. One guy even orders the #2 special no matter where he goes to eat... just to eliminate one more thing.  Even with MJ, you have to think about whether you want to transport to states that aren't so friendly, have to worry about your supplies, where to buy it, when to smoke it where you feel comfortable, and then about enforcement. BLM and National Forests don't care about the MJ laws in the whatever state they are in... you're still held to the federal enforcement guidelines.  While I have no issue with anyone who uses it, it's still one more thing to think about. Yeah, you can probably tell I've given this some thought :)

Good for you, and so glad to hear that you've made your life a little simpler and a little more joyful too.

Be well, and congrats.

Congrats! The nomadic lifestyle becomes a lot easier going with out that, one less thing to think about in the states it's not legalized and one less thing that could jam you up with authorities.

I stopped drinking 5 years ago when I was diagnosed with lyme as alcohol started making me feel really queasy even after just one. Discovered i don't miss it at all and have no plans of going back.

What's the plan for all that extra money ?

Congrats to you!  I have 2 other members of my family that are recovering alkies.  Bad genes?  Great commitment.
I'll keep you in mind!

Thanks, UTim,

I think I would choose something other than number 2.

:D

It tastes like s*t!

See, I don't NEED to get high.

Seriously, thanks.

Hi Pat-
I appreciate the courage it takes to share this kind of news to others....good for you! You have a lot to be very proud of.

You're making me wonder if there is a corner or section of the RTR where others who abstain from inebriants can say hello or even camp near each other. Does anyone know?

If I get to the RTR this January, I, for one, will watch sunset with you and toast your sobriety with a Pellegrino and lime wedge!

DITTO to everything said above! You ROCK!!

Congrats, I stopped drinking a few months ago, realizing some people just shouldn't consume alcohol, I mentally feel so much better. I have started smoking more marijuana than I have most of my life(so maybe a couple times a week), but of course as most people know it has 90% positive effects rather than the 70% negative that alcohol has. I've started losing weight because I'm not drinking every night being depressed. Keep up the good fight fella!

Congratulations!!! Giving up MJ couldn't have been easy, particularly when you couldn't sleep, but you stayed strong!

Yeah, when I couldn't sleep, I felt a definite pull.  Thanks to everybody for the support.  I truly believe this less-stressful life has been a large help.  And this forum.  I've learned so much from the folks here.  Heck, Jimindenver GAVE me a solar panel and a battery!  And "helped" me wire it.  That's just one example.  And so many folks here are really supportive.

So, thanks to everybody.

Pat

I think daily stress has a lot to do with excesses, even if it's just sugar and/or chocolate.

Congratulations!
