What have I gotten myself into??

I don't think there are anymore because insurance is governed by fewer and fewer large companies, and they are nationwide. I've dealt with the "commercial" stuff too. I converted a Step Van to a legitimate RV and got plates to reflect that. Insurance didn't care. All they cared about was the VIN...

    New member

I've had a couple of step vans that I converted. The first ones seemed like Insurance was no problem at all. Just another "Truck", rig thing turned into a camper. The last one did however required it to be insured as a "commercial vehicle", even though it was fully converted and now had "Motor...

    Wind deflector

Keep in mind, you don't need a "bubble" shape like the earlier poster. You could just put a curved panel in front bowed in ONE plane, similar to the Airstream Basecamp. And, this might not be very difficult. I would rivet a 1" x 1" Aluminum Angle up each front corner, then, attempt to bow 1/4"...

    Mini-Van-Camper-Conversion

I was catching up on the thread having been way for a bit. I see you hoped to sleep 3. I know what I would explore. ... I'd explore building a back hatch pull out platform similar to what they use in pickup truck beds (those roll-out systems). Stays in when you dont need it, pulls out when you...

Water issues... the what how and why's.... This is a great thread actually, and I am happy the OP does not get all bent out of shape when people bring up things the OP has decided against (thank you). I was out camping for a few days this last week with friends. I have to tell you, that my...

Did you pick a fridge yet ? I'm curious what your going to find in a 12v upright that works well. I had one of those 3 foot tall dorm style fridges (120v) in my trailer at first (temporary) and hated it for three reasons. One, no matter what you do, it seems your food is always falling out when...

    Mini-Van-Camper-Conversion

My comments may or may not apply. Currently, I have a 6x12 converted cargo. My intentions with that was to be able to pull it with a 2016 Chrysler T&C which I bought new for my wife. When we bought it, we drove them all. We ended up Chrysler because the only other one we liked was the toy, but...

    Cummins Canoe (A Stepvan Story)

    >>> what does one do? Ah, ..... Cleanse your desire for that darn diesel ? Sorry, Someone has to say it. Sorry, Really. I feel really bad for you. The ultimate vehicle, And you know I know it ! .....But with a problematic powerplant. Ugh. 3 years you have been living out the stepvan dream...

Looking to get a hightop installed.

Huh... I've got the same year van. I too have been thinking about it, but I dont have "Fiberine money" laying around. I can however build, remodel, alter, and finish such projects successfully. My plan ? It's a van in which there is no shortage of in scrap yards. I've seen a few fiberglass tops...

Pricey propane or solar shower or PVC on the roof?

    >>>I also disliked having to pump it back up when I was wet and cold. I also am not a fan of "pumping"... another option I have available is I purchased a 12v "air brush" compressor on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ATEKB5G/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It has...

Pricey propane or solar shower or PVC on the roof?

I can't even point you to a single thing I use, as I have a variety of things. I use the traditional sink sprayer when we are using it for dishes, I've also used it for showers. I also have a variety of home store shower heads and if you do not limit their flow, they use the water pretty fast. I...

Pricey propane or solar shower or PVC on the roof?

Mine claims a 58 psi max pressure (4 bar) and frankly, if you left the pump tight, it would blow out that seal IF you were ignoring the built in pop-off valve that would be whistling no different than an old pressure cooker with the gauge off of it.

    Chevy Express brake lines

I think I have this project creeping up on me as well. I intend to buy this Stainless "Kit" with pre-bent stainless. https://www.amazon.com/Inline-Tube-Pre-Box-Compatible-Stainless/dp/B074G2B687 I've wrestled with a different express van I once had (1999) and it was truly awful to get in and...

Pricey propane or solar shower or PVC on the roof?

A quality Stainless Steel "Weed Sprayer" tank can be found to hold from 2 to 5 gallons of water. Because they are Stainless, they can be put over hot coals, set over a propane or butane cook stove, or even have a immersion heater dropped in if electricity is available. I have a 4.5 Gallon one...

Cargo Van, Express or Econoline--one row of additional seats for two

Regarding an express van, it could be that your very best option would be to go to a wrecking yard and have them pull out the floor frame they put on top of the floor that has the sockets for the seats built in. This way you get the seat and the framework made to hold the seat and passengers in...

Occasional Mobile Solar ? Best Battery Life Questions

Thanks for the replies. I guess I will find a way to monitor and drop the battery to that 75-80% charge level after use, then just pull the ability to charge or draw until next use.

Occasional Mobile Solar ? Best Battery Life Questions

Hello, We see plenty of RV and Mobile Solar Install reports of how to size one and how to set it up for proper charging, and how to "long term store" a Lithium Battery. But I have not really seen answers on achieving the longest battery life when something like a Van or RV is not used every...

Can I raise roof on P42 step van?

P42.. Like Workhorse ? The modern version of the Grumman ? I wouldn't be afraid to cut it. Though, I would only lift the rear section and not mess with the cab area and windshield area because they all taper back. Right behind the cab area.. right behind the roof cross member behind the drivers...

Motorcycle to use as a "toad" with van

I've owned over 60 Motorcycles in my lifetime. Body no longer enjoyed bikes but I did not want to quit yet and bought into the scooter crowd. Can't explain it, but it's probably the most fun I've had on two wheels. Of course I did my homework, wanting the smallest/lightest scoot fully capable of...

    Generator Selection

I had an EU2000 in my Step Van. Because of my Solar Install, I found I hardly used it. When I did, the rascal always started HARD. Had very low hours on it when I sold it with the truck. No interested in that kind of investment this time around, with my trailer also having an adequate solar...
