Gamma Lid bucket smells horrid inside

Are these the type of pellets you are referring to? Limestone pellets that dessicate? https://www.amazon.com/Walts-Ag-Lime-Pellets-10/dp/B0170WSX4U

Securing front door from the inside

Some people, and I think especially women, may want that extra security. Like if they have a stalker or domestic violence situation. It isn't hard to do and gives a little extra peace of mind. I mostly park in safe spaces and just locking the door is enough.

Securing front door from the inside

That's a good idea. One downside is lack of stealth, so it can't be used on surface streets. But it's very secure, for boondocking. Another downside is that people could cut the strap from the outside if they have a knife. But it would stop casual thieves.

Securing front door from the inside

An even simpler way to prototype and experiment with this is just to use packing tape straight to your door. As long as it's on a parallel (to the door frame) area, the stick will be very strong. Probably 50+ lbs. Or, use filament tape which is 300lbs of strength. Make a loop to then tie to a...

Securing front door from the inside

My car doesn't have door pulls that would allow looping. And, to your other post, I'm just making a loop to the door. Yes, use a caribiner and some cord or paracord to tie it to whatever is sturdy in the cab.

Securing front door from the inside

Here is the picture of the installation: [img=400x700] A better way (in my case) might be to install a bolt and a nut. That way, I'm for sure it's not gonna pull out. Glue might also help, but not be as strong in many cases.

    Communities to avoid

I can understand that there are parts of Albuquerque, NM, that would make a person uneasy. Poverty, or grime, or whatnot. With that said, I've done several days in ABQ stealth parking my Chevy Astro van. No real issues, as long as I follow Bob's stealth camping rules, including rolling in late...

    Communities to avoid

I spent 2 months living in my van in San Francisco without issue. You have to find the right neighborhood. I was near the Whole Foods in Potrero Hill. Several other vehicle dwellers, and near a police station.

Securing front door from the inside

I want to share a way to secure your door from the inside. This is useful, because if someone breaks a window, they can't open the door. And then, hopefully they either give up, or you have an advantage of some delay time. HOW TO DO IT find something on the door you can screw into. Metal is...

    Pirate Camp....a build opportunity

Thank you for the reply and kindnesses. It's not looking like I'll visit. I'm in Quartzsite now at Dome Rock. I'm having some alternator issues... Sounds like the bearings are dying on my Astro. I'm gonna lay low and try to figure out my next move.

    Box-beds, AKA sleeping boxes

Warms my heart to meet a fellow A/S driver. I'm in AZ right now, but will be all over this year.

    Pirate Camp....a build opportunity

Thanks. I'm gonna try to visit. And yes, because of COVID, I will stay safe. I meant visiting as talking to people outside... Not going in rigs. Hope to meet you soon, abnorm!

    Semi-retired Van Buddha

Thanks for sharing. Yeah, the place is pretty depressed. Not much opportunity. But sometimes places with not much are hungry for change. Not everyone, but some people. And that can be a big plus. I hear you about not feeling safe. I stayed there overnight and it was a bit sketchy. I didn't...

I'm sorry to hear about the losses and tragedies for your family. Yeah, I've been through Gallup a little bit. Some reading up of stories during COVID. Liquor stores being the core of the economy in some sense. Lots of alcoholism. I was inspired by some stories of people trying to be positive...

    Box-beds, AKA sleeping boxes

I peek through the too of the blanket, which let's me see if someone is right outside the window. Like if LEO is shining a flashlight. If I want more view, you are right that I have to poke my head up, like a gopher. Above the window level. That would allow me a full view.

    Box-beds, AKA sleeping boxes

Yeah... The box doesn't have to be on the floor. Maybe build it up 10 inches so that you can out storage under. A big plus is that the space above is table space. I haven't found a need to insulate under the bed because my mattress is thick enough to keep that warm. And the sleeping bag also...

    Semi-retired Van Buddha

New to the forum, but not new to van dwelling. I'm a 40yo Asian American in a van. I saved up enough money and decided to exit the rat race. Vanning was a way to retire and travel. Half my time is focused on taking care of myself. And half the time, I hope, will be getting to know other...

    Pirate Camp....a build opportunity

Thanks! Nothing needed. If anything, I'd like to help others with their projects or just check out builds. Swapping info and sharing ideas. Enjoy the calm weather for now in this area! I'll post in newcomers. Thanks for the reminder.

    Box-beds, AKA sleeping boxes

I agree. It adds complexity and whatever works is good. I am able to peak out without being seen. For mine, I have lots of soft sides that are just blankets. So I can move the blanket and literally peak through a hole. I dislike sleeping on top because it's very easy to be seen. So the box...

    Box-beds, AKA sleeping boxes

I don't seal up the bed box tight, so that deals with the condensation in the box. A small usb fan connected to a usb battery power bank will also run all night. I do soft side wall. So I just slide in and clip a curtain. It requires maneuverability. You gotta crawl.
