If your flip phone uses CDMA only, you may run into issues finding a tower that handles that. Many are ditching that technology and only going with LTE. If it works and you are happy, than use it until it goes away. Then figure out what you want to do. I don't think there is any wrong answer :)

Also, if you want to use the hotspot for more than 1 device, I recommend PDANet. I bought the app for $8 and it works very well.

I just received mine today and it works great. I now have Verizon hotspot, ATT Tether Phone and the PC For People (Sprint).

I put in a claim too. I am doubtful anything will happen, but we shall see.
