    My unorthodox camper trailer build.

Thank you for sharing! What a clever idea. I bet you had lots of fun planning and building this. I wonder how the overall finished weight would compare with a cargo trailer of similar size. Of course, it wouldn't be as much fun or as clever!

Baby step to camping. Advice for which tent.

Orange,  A tent may be a good baby step for you but I am going to suggest you consider something even easier. If you have a van, you may be able to pull a teardrop trailer. The advantage is that you don't even have to take time or energy to set it up. You just hook it up and go. If you can't...

Interesting article on homeless in their vehicles

"What homeless Americans really need it a permanent roof over their heads, because it is exceedingly difficult to operate in our society without one."     I think many of us have bumped up against this while getting insurance on our vehicles. The rules set up to get the required insurance...

    Living on the road...

Congratulations on your upgrade! Tent camping is an option but it can be a struggle, especially if you have a windy winter in the Southwest Desert. The folks that have teardrops seem to rave about them.  I think taking conservative steps by starting with the tent, then the teardrop is a wise...

2in foam mattress firm enough for side sleeper

I have heard several people that highly recommend these. I don't have one but am considering it. They are pricey. Another good thing though is that they act as a moisture block so you won't get black mold growing on your bed platform...

    Runnin' down a dream

I thought you were going to say because of your love of the back country, that a truck would be best for you. I have to say, I really like my van. It suits me very well. I did add a high top on it which makes it more comfortable, but I think even without a high top it would be good.  The high...

Coating/Covering plywood suggestions for my build

I believe the smell of the wood will dissipate over time. I see you used finish plywood. I used rough plywood on my floor of my van. I painted it with deck paint. It is holding up pretty well even though I did not prime it and it only has one coat. It has lots of scratches and such from use. I...

Hi, I'm new here and need help

Stealth camping is very uncomfortable for me. Luckily, you seem to have the knack for it, except for the bed.  I liked the suggestion to use cardboard to build up an even surface and then a larger sheet to cover it all over. You may be able to find materials at the Habitat for Humanity...

Hi about to buy van for van dwelling, plan on retiring and leaving here in less than

Ksleft, I started a year ago and bought a Chevy Express Cargo Van and had a high top installed. This has worked very well for me. The thing about getting a vehicle to get on the road is that you need to know your budget. Besides making sure you have an emergency fund, it is best if you can be...

    I’m new here

Sorry to hear about your false start. It is so good you had help getting things together. If you decide to go with a Prius, you will be in great company. Those vehicles are like their own generator. No need for solar! Happy and safe travels!

    thinking of a drastic change

Alicia,  I have heard the advice many times to take baby steps. There is no need to jump into the deep end.  Begin minimizing your possessions. Try taking a local camp outing to a local county park or state park using your car and a tent (or just your car). Watch a ton of YouTube videos to see...

    A rather easy bed

That is a pretty nice looking bed. Very clean looking. My thought is that, for me, it is very low to the ground and would have limited storage underneath. It is a clever use of shelf brackets though.
