    4G signal

I might meet up with the caravans in a few weeks, but I work remotely, so a decent 4G signal is paramount. Bob mentioned every caravan camp will have a 4G signal, but I haven't heard much on the quality thereof. How good has the 4G signal been at the Caravan locations? Have the towers been...

Bed / Mattress Height (non High top van)?

I wanted to use storage bins underneath, which were 14" tall, so I aimed for a 14" clearance under the 2x4s. The overall bed's total height ended up at 17" because of the width of the 2x4s (which are like 3.25" wide for some odd reason instead of 4"). Of course then I partitioned the...

    Finally full time

Right on the money, so to speak. The van, conversion, and RV cost a pretty penny.

    Finally full time

I don't think I'll be attending the RTR in its present form. Too many people in too small a space, which leads to absolutely saturated cell towers, so I wouldn't be able to work during the RTR. Additionally, the seminars are scheduled during work hours. So I'd have to take vacation, and I'd...

    Finally full time

I spent a year and a half researching, designing, building, and testing a cargo/camper conversion. I sold my house on October 4th, paid off all my debts instantly, bought an RV, and moved the wife and myself down to Texas to establish residency at her parents' house. This weekend, we left their...

    Protecting generators from the elements

It's time to buy a generator. It rains, then water runs downhill or pools where it's flat. There are bugs crawling around, and direct sun can't be good for them either.  How do you protect your generator from these factors and still be able to run it safely?

    My Path to (No)Madness!

I went up to Leadville and hung out with NoMad YesHappy for four days, so I figured this thread would be a suitable place to put the video.  24 minutes; about half of that is an interview and checking out the trailer. Not much of a tour, but just an independent look inside. I also do my usual...

TMT - My build so far

Quick update. The build is done. Just getting the house ready to sell. Won't be long now.

3 things i am getting tired of doing

I think it's understandable, at least for newcomers.  Most forums out there are identical in function and mostly the same in form, usually with similar rules. CRVL's rules are very unusual. I think it goes to show how many people don't even look at the rules; they probably don't think about the...

TMT - My build so far

Today I switched to Verizon.  Thus it seemed important to test my new MiFi hotspot, with AND without the weBoost cell signal booster. I also tested my WiFi range extender. TLDW: All of the above worked well, but they aren't magic; and there is a bit of a learning curve.

TMT - My build so far

My build has entered the test phase. Over Memorial Day weekend, I went camping and identified quite a few deficiencies. No show stoppers, but a bunch of little things. This video doesn't feature those, but is geared more toward "hey look at this great weekend I had!".

TMT - My build so far

I got the same StowAway swing-away trailer hitch carrier Bob reviews last year. I didn't record installing it, but I recorded some information about how I built the platform on top of it and the big box I mounted to it. Don't use paint to waterproof the wood. Use Thompson's WaterSeal. ...

Question about Bubble top on Vans

You might have some luck with hydraulic pistons. I've seen some folks use them to lift their bed in that way. But I think you'd have trouble combining that with keeping it waterproof when it's down.

Question about Bubble top on Vans

Any time you cut a hole in your exterior, you want to waterproof it with Butyl Tape and Dicor Self-Leveling Lap Sealant. This provides two layers of waterproofing. Good high-top installations do this. Unfortunately, there are cases where someone did not do the installation correctly. Therefore...

CarolynsRVLife ebook - How I got 20,000 subscribers in 40 days

I most enjoy the instructional and how-to style of videos, which means I usually enjoy people's earlier videos, when they were doing their builds or solving early problems. Later, when they go out on their adventures, I find I lose interest in many channels. This happened to her channel and...

    My Path to (No)Madness!

Fair enough, but COBOL isn't going away, and people who know it are retiring or dying of old age. COBOL will be in great demand for decades to come. Over a billion lines of it are believed to be still running out there in the wild. Some larger, older companies refuse to move away from their...

    My Path to (No)Madness!

Information has become an industry. Someone has to program all that automation, and that means we need designers, developers, testers, deployment managers; all kinds of jobs. But probably a lot fewer of them, so yes, the problem still exists.

TMT - My build so far

Second controller got wired up and configured today. Now witnessing the full power of my 700W solar array. ...Well not now; the sun doesn't shine at night. But earlier today. Batteries leveled off for the night at 13.2V instead of their usual 13.1. I woke up in the van this morning at 9:15 to...

TMT - My build so far

Lots of improvement in the last couple months. I installed a series of 9 ventilation fans under the woodworking. They will keep air moving in a circular motion throughout the van, particularly at night. The plumbing under the sink is done. Tubing in, tubing out. It's just easier this way. I...
